OT - Insurance opinions?
Just had my insurance renewal from AAMI - freaked! Rang them up, and I got a $75 discount. Looked at the NRMA website, adjusted the parameters so that they matched the AAMI conditions perfectly (same agreed value, etc), and it came out another $93.50 cheaper than the discounted AAMI rate. At present, we have our house and both cars with AAMI, so no favours from them.
Anyone here had any problems with NRMA insurance? |

AAMI was $400 cheaper than my quote from NRMA. NRMA quote was then $150 cheaper than Suncorp (who I am with now and I have multiple policy discount).
Needless to say I am not staying with Suncorp. I am thinking of switching to NRMA. I don't want to go to AAMI (despite the cheap price tag) because you don't have a choice of repairer and I hear AAMI is terrible to deal with on a claim. |

GIO is pretty good though I'm with NRMA right now as this year it happens to be cheaper. I just bounce between the two.
I had an issue with NRMA where my car was side swiped by a truck. Although I had photos of the truck and intersection as well as copies of the roads legislation they kept indicating I may have been overtaking the truck. There weren't any witnesses. 6 months later and a threat of a complaint they finally just called the other party who admitted his fault and they returned my $2500 excess. They should have just done that from the start... |

if you have a crash late at night on a weekend they won't help with towing, and are pretty shitty to deal with repairs.. was a fair while to deal with it all.
Partner hit a kangaroo on gympie road (that had already been hit once).. was pretty well stuck, what should have been a writeoff (seriously, kangaroo all up in that business) was repaired, really not a pleasant car now. |

Can I just suggest that you look at the PDS for each company and closely look at the terminology used in each one.
I have not long come out of a 3 year civil legal battle over a refused at fault claim by an insurance company (who I had been with for over 10 years). That battle was all over the definition and the insurance companies implementation of a 'recklessness' clause. For the record I won and they had to pay the 3rd parties and my loss. I still lost over 30k for the experience! I found the same clause in the NRMA PDS as well. I'm with AAMI and happy to pay a bit more for a simpler PDS. . . That way you know where you stand, you may never claim, but. . . That's my two bobs worth! |

Truth be know, I think you just need to be carefull with every insurer. I personally dont think anyone of them is "perfect". I was with Alianz with two cars for over 12 years and never once put a claim in. I notified them I changed wheels on one car from 17" to 19" in standard BMW fittment and offset and they deamed me too much of a risk.
Anyway .... I've allways found Suncorp to be great to deal with but I reciently changed to RACQ as Suncorp premiums jumped up way too much. |

have two cars and house on NRMA. had to get my Evo fixed when a truck nudged the back end... no issues at all. sent a cab to take me for a courtesy car... it was roundabout the time when the tsunami hit japan, there was a wait on the tail light with no ETA so they let me source it myself (ended up gettinga pair of black taillights from the 8MR which i wanted anyway) they reinbursed me in full for both very quickly when i only needed one. finish on the car was immac. wouldn't go with anyone else. plus they gave me around 3k discount with all the extra policies (still $175 a month but i'm 24)

Am with Shannons with both my vehicles.
One no-fault repair was handled conveniently with a satisfactory result. At present, am having issues with a cracked windscreen where Shannons are offering to replace with O'Briens windscreen (aftermarket) rather than BMW (genuine). Seems that in the past, Shannons might have been covering for genuine windscreens (at least in Western Australia a couple of years back), but perhaps they have taken a new position ... |
