Hi,

Just want to put this out there. VMR recommends a 225/40/18 front and 255/35/18 rear on an 8.5" front wheel and a 9.5" rear wheel. This does not fit, they leak and are way too small. This is what I said, but they insisted it would work. We even tried the same size tire, different brand/models to make sure mine weren't defective.

Now I'm out over 1,000$ worth of tires because the original set I bought according to what they recommended and I can't return them. (Super sports)

I'm switching to 235 and 265 respectively.

Interesting. Don't know the offsets on the vmrs offhand but my 235_40s fit on my cf5 wheels.

Thanks for the warning, I'm doing a similar setup with the enkei raijin wheels;

Fronts: 18x8.5 +38 (225/40/18 Michelin PSS)
Rears: 18x9.5 +35 (255/35/18 Michelin PSS)

I'm actually grabbing this slightly used set from someone who sold their 1er, so I don't think the enkei wheels have the same fitment issue.

My main concern was whether or not the rears would actually fit on my stock suspension without rolling the fenders.

When you say "leak" what exactly do you mean? There is absolutely no reason 255/35/18 would be stretched to the point of leaking or risk of the tire bead unseating. 255 is actually the proper size for a 9.5" wide wheel. 265/275 is on the wide side and usually ends up looking extra meaty.

I think youre doing something wrong here and youre jumping to conclusions without giving real, substantial information aside from "the correct size tire for the wheel doesnt fit and it leaks. fuck them"

9.5 ET35 is going to be an interesting fit with 255/35 MPSS. You will definitely rub in the rears unless you can dial in a bunch of camber.

Ok. If they are 18" wheels with proper diameter tires, I will tell you now that going from a 255 to a 265 tire will not solve bead seating issues because tire width is not your problem here.

Ok, whats your solution? Keep in mind I tried multiple brands with this size on these wheels. Each had the same issue. I moved one size up and the issue went away.

Whats the diagnosis, Doctor?

Without having both the tires and wheels in front of me, I can't tell you what is wrong.

What I can do however is say that plenty of people have mounted and run MUCH narrower tires than 255s on 9.5" wide VMR wheels without beads not seating. I'm talking 215s. A full 1.6" narrower of a tire.

Who did your work? Are you sure it was leaking from the tire bead and not the valve stem?

I saw it with my own eyes, the same wheel works and the same guys that have done the wheels and tires on my porsche, subaru and former lotus.

Squirting water along the bead you can see bubbles coming up just about everywhere.

Maybe my wheels are screwed up, but all four? Doubt it.

So here's a question. Why do YOU think that going from a 255 to a 265 wide tire fixed it.

I run 225/40/18 and 255/35/18 Z1 Star Spec on V701s that are 18x8.5 +45 and 18x9.5 +50 and I have never had any problems with losing air or beads not seating.

..LOL...something is very odd here..I have had Yokohama AD08's 225/ on 8.5 front rim and 255/30/19 on a 9.5 inch VMR rim for 2 years now with NEVER an issue with leaking. I have had 2 dented rims which happened the same night on a pot hole and with these bends i still did not loose pressure for a couple months till i got a replacement rim.
Your car must be having a Fringe episode....Maybe a little to much time in the flotation tank. doing you no what.........

Thanks for the Heads up, I'll consider the options. I like the look of the Enkei Raijin and how concave they are, especially for the price I'm getting for wheels in perfect condition and nearly brand new tires with TPMS installed.

After a quick search to enlighten myself about camber(my first real car worth modifying) it looks like the bad news is the tires will wear out quicker and lose some stability in straight-line driving. I don't track the car very often so the benefits of better handling in corners is lost to me.

:Sigh: I think my hunt for a good looking set of wheels continues. The VMR 710s look pretty good, or there's always the APEX Arc-8 group buy going on...

There are plenty of options between what you were looking at and an average setup.

Lots of the E9X wheels can look ok with the right suspension. 9.5 ET40-45 in the rears fits pretty aggressive without needing to dial in too much camber. Lots more for semi-concave wheels in that area. Forgestar wheels let you buy an exact offset. It's not even crazy expensive.

sorry, but the reason you loose air is either because the tire fitter didn't put your tire on correctly or you failed to maintain inflation. If this isn't the case check your valve stems.

the recommended sizes are more than enough for those widths. end of story.
