antenna reception problem

I'll try to make this long story short:

My car was reaching it's warranty expiration, so I brought it into the dealer to get a small problem fixed--a blown rear right speaker. I took it in, told them it was static, and they replaced my radio HU instead of the speaker. The problem was still there, and, at this point, I had just passed my warranty expiration when I brought it back in (literally days later.) They refused to fix it, wanted me to pay $850 to solve the problem, lied to me about what I brought it in for, etc. etc. I talked to BMWUSA, they made the dealer fix the problem, all was well. I also got to keep a new HU out of the deal in the end, and it had HD radio, so that's all fine.

Well now the speaker is static again and at this point I'm just through with that problem and not worrying anymore--the other problem is that now my FM reception is hardly working at all. I've searched and searched and can't find a good solution... I've checked the hidden menu on the radio--it's on the right region, but on the 'antenna' page, instead of showing me that it's on AUTO, it says ANT ERROR.

Any ideas, anyone...?

maybe the antenna came loose from the back of the unit. unfortunately you would have to pull the HU to see.

Good thinking... I'll give it a shot this weekend and see what happens.

Well, that did it. The geniuses at the dealership broke the antenna clip when they put in the replacement radio. Got it working again. Thanks!

It could be your radio is set to the wrong region or your antenna is not on AUTO. The radio uses two antenna's. Here is now to access the radio's hidden menu...

Thanks for the post! - Solution for my problem as well

My radio was replaced under warranty (due to the LEDs burned issue) and after that the FM reception was crap. As the radio was replaced by the dealer under good will (after 48 months) I did not complained went i found it. I listen to my iPod most of the time, but it got me really upset not to have FM. Only 2 or 3 stations would work.

I took the radio off and found that the antenna was in, with an adapter. The adapter attached was all the way in, but I took it off and played with the radio with and without the adapter. Eventually adio started to work. Really weird!

Now I have good FM antenna reception and the ANT ERROR message in the hidden menu has disappeared

Took a picture of the adapter, for reference.
