Can someone explain what a custom tune consists of? Like do you just drive your car up with the stock DME and they tune off of that? Or do you need a piggy back, or flash? I have been wanting to go to a custom tuner and get reliable power for MY car...

Use a cobb tuner and the tuner goes in and protunes it. He changes your air/fuel, timing, boost. Protunes are more specific for your car your mods. Takes about 45min-1 hr to protune

You can also get an etune, where you do your own logging by driving. You then email the cobb map to the etuners, he makes adjustments, you load that map. Rinse and repeat.

Ahhh thank you for the replies. I have been wondering what tune to to switch to after having jb4 for while I guess its on to cobb. I was thinking PROceve because of the vast single turbo work they are doing, or giagtech because berk runs them.

Looking at the baseline in the video the hp for the baseline seems to be the same as what BMW quotes for a stock 135, could it be the dyno is calibrated to compensate for the drive train losses and report hp figures that are more in line with flywheel.
It is also possible that because the reading is taken from the hub the losses are much less than with 60+ pounds of rim and tire eating horsepower. Let's not forget if i have heavier wheels and wider tires the drive train losses will be more. In this instance his HP reading is with wheels having a weight of 0 pounds so is it really WHP worthy of comparison with other dyno results with wheels mounted? This seems to be the most logical explanation. Assuming these numbers are at the flywheel it's still impressive and not out of line with other tuners even without an updated intercooler. |

My first post wasn't clear enough, no one's fault but mine. The day I got it tuned was the day that baseline was taken, during that first run I had a 50/50 E85/93 fuel mix and a BMS DCI already installed. Bearing that in mind, consider what the true baseline would have been with 93 in the tank and no DCI. Even greater gains. |
