Need Help: Best AUX Cable

Hi guys. I'm thinking to buy an AUX cable for my E82. It is because I have problem in playing spotify through the usb port. I'm not really familiar with AUX at all, like what kind of brand works the best, quality, and stuffs. I don't really mind to spend more money to get something better and able to works longer than other. I know monster, belkin, but never use it before.

Please help me out. Really appreciate any comment and opinion. Thank you guys.

Thicker monoprice, as short as is workable.

Just to amplify the point, I use one like this in my bimmer:

http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

It costs about $2. It works great! I've paid more but they don't sound any different. The only thing to be careful about is shielding. But anybody who is reputable won't sell a cord like this without shielding. The "fancy brands" charge more without delivering any added value. It is just wire with connectors on the ends. Mine actually has a right angle fitting on one end that I had to solder on, I couldn't find a cord with it. I got the right angle end from Parts Express.

Thanks for bringing up the question. It reminded me I need a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter so I can plug my ear buds into my Garmin for a trip coming up - want to let LOML sleep. The adapter was 0.36, with shipping it is still less than $3.00 delivered to my house.

Monoprice is also great for HDMI cables - one of the biggest rip offs around at this point. The store often wants $50 for a $5 cable.

Thank you guys! Some of my friends told me that they were having problem with their aux for some reasons. Is there any special treatment to make it lasts longer? Maybe not pinching or pressing the cable again something or what. Let me know.

Thank you,

CL 19

I have had no issues with mine. I have three. One in each of my two vehicles hooked up to the Garmin and one in a bag for use when I travel. None were over $10 and none give me problems. The two in the vehicles are routed through the car so they don't show as much and don't get plugged/unplugged much. The spare in the bag gets used about once a month. They are all several years old.

Should I just leave the cable plugged even though I leave the car or what? At first I never unplugged it but it just bothers me to something still plugging when I leave the car. Tell me if that's okay and what I think is wrong. I finally bought one from frogz, it has variety of colors and I think it's quite good for $10. Thanks

New to the 135i, just got a 2009. Been stalking the forum for months and learned a ton.

Slightly off the topic of best axillary cable but is there anyway to play music off an iPhone through the USB? I am getting a lot of background hiss with the axillary cable I have because the I have the turn the iPhone and Stereo volume up pretty high.

I don't know if it matters but I have a non-navigation car that has premium sound, USB, and Bluetooth (for phone calls but not music as for as I can tell.)

There is a sensitivity setting for the aux port. I would try that. There is also a special cable that interfaces with the USB.

I'm personally a fan of Mediabridge cables because they're well shielded and very sturdy for pretty cheap. As above, shortest one will be best. There is nothing wrong with leaving it plugged in 24/7. Also, for best results, turn the volume on whatever you have plugged into the AUX port up to max before turning the volume on the car stereo up.

Edit: FWIW - since this is an ANALOG cable, quality/shielding does matter some. For digital signals, like HDMI, it either works or doesn't so going cheap as long as it works at all is fine.

Thank you for the replies. I will try adjusting the sensitivity and turning the volume on the iPhone all the way up to see if that helps. I was hoping to find a non-analog way but my understanding is that even with the BMW Y-Cable it still uses the analog portion for music transmission. I'll give the Mediabridge connector a try, it looks like a solid piece of kit.
