Rear Wheel Fitment Question: 18x11" ET18 - BMW 1 Series Coupe Forum / 1 Series Convertible Forum (1M / tii / 135i / 128i / Coupe / Cabrio / Hatchback) (BMW E82 E88 128i 130i 135i)

Would a 18x11" ET18 wheel fit on my 1M properly? I'm assuming that a 295/30 tire on this rim would be too close for comfort, but that a 285/35 configuration would work with no rubbing on a stock suspension.

Can anyone confirm or refute before I drop the cash on non-refundable wheels?

I don't know about the width of the wheel in that offset. I can tell you a 295/35 fits with lots of room to spare on the stock rear wheels.

On stock wheels? On 19 inches a 295/35 seems to have a 27.1 inch diameter vs stock's 26.3, which is quite taller tire. Any chance you wanted to say 295/30? They should fit easy.

I have 275/35 and on stock setup there should be enough space for 295/35.

I see your point; but 275/35 is only 26.6 inch diameter so merely 0.3 taller than the stock 265/35; there is an additional 0.5 inches with the 295/35 on top of your 275/35 set up. I suspect there might not be enough space back there, especially under load with a passenger or two at the rear.

Alrighty, so I guess I'll be the guinea pig on this one. Bought the wheels and am mounting 285/30/18s on them tomorrow. Will post my findings here.

Right you are. Dam I hate spreading misinformation. Yes, I have 295/30 19s on the rear and they fit without issue. Thanks for the correction!

When determining clearance you compare the radius and not the diameter. An additional 0.25" is not going to be a problem.

No need to post your finding as 285/30/18 is shorter than the stock tire size. Below is a useful link to compare tire sizes if you don't know how to calculate by hand.

FWIW, I'm hoping to fit 295/35-18 BF Goodrich g-Force Rivals on the back of my 1M later this season with 275/35s in front.

Tire Rack is trying to get them to me in time for this year's One Lap of America (May 3-10) but it's a long shot.

The rear tires will be mounted on an Apex ARC-8 wheel that's 18 X 10.5 et 27. Fronts on 18 X10 et 25.

Update: The 285/30/18 Toyo R888s seem to work fine with the rear wheels on a stock 1M suspension. No rubbing under normal driving conditions. Will report back if there are any issues under heavy cornering conditions.

R888 255/35/18 on a 9.5 ET22 wheel. Since I don't have camber plates and wanted no chance of rubbing, Joe at Apex suggested I go with these.

On the 11" rim, the rears stick out quite a bit. So much so that I'm a little worried about rubbing the wheel arch under heavy cornering. We'll find out in about 10 hours

very interesting. I sure hope this is a show car or just doing this for looks... I just can't understand increasing the front to rear stagger on this car when it comes to performance... it's just an invitation for terminal understeer.

These are my track shoes, and they worked really well yesterday at Laguna. All I was trying to do was run the widest possible tires without rubbing. Since the R888's run a little bigger than non-R-compound tires, I went with 255s up front. I may have been able to get away with 265s, but wanted to play it safe. Maybe next time. The car tended to oversteer on the stock stagger/config, so my theory was that my combo would help balance it out. I was happy with it yesterday. YMMV.

As for the rears, there's no way that I could have done 295s without rubbing on this wheel offset. I can post fitment pics, but it looked like the 285s were going to rub the wheel well lip under full compression. I consider myself really really lucky that there wasn't any rubbing at all yesterday. This pic shows how little room there is left in the rear.

"It's a good thing that we ended up going with the smaller 285/30/18 rear tire because if we went with the 295/30/18 size there would have been rubbing for sure and this is all due to the Volk's much lower wheel offset. You very possibly could have sneaked by with the 265/35/18 front tire but there definitely would have been significant rubbing on the fender liners. Now even with camber plates there is still the possibility of grazing the fender liners but additional negative camber would minimize the grazing. This is a very minor thing though and indents in the liner should eventually wear away to wear it will not be a problem."

295 fits if you have the right offset and assuming the tire does not run wide.
