CEL - JB+
Hi,
Decided to try a tune so went with the JB+ as it would be easy to add/remove. I turned it down 2 clicks from standard and have been enjoying the extra oomph....FM! (Can't imagine the go you guys must have with tunes + meth etc) Anyway yesterday doing a merge onto a highway and WOT - got a check engine light. Pulled over re-started and gone....what gives. Theories please - I am running a mildish boost? Is this something that just happens - should I be sourcing a code clearer? Thanks Jeff |

JB4 is a million times better, worth every penny. Get someone else to install for you if you're worried about that
If you want something cheap I have a JB3, a JB3 w/ JB4 upgrade as well as JB4s on my shelf. |

+1 on the JB4 or other similarly more powerful tune.
Regarding the CEL, might be your HPFP. Mine did the same thing. WOT, limp, restart engine and everything fine again until the next occurrence. Best to check your codes to make sure.

Does anyone have a code checker / clearer they can recommend? Must be idiot proof. I have seen ones that flash lights and you count how many flashes - that won't work for me - i need one that says its a xxxxxx code press x to clear

JB4s, COBB APs and PROcede 'tunes' all have the function of checking codes which would be useful for you. As you don't have any of these I'm afraid I think your only option is to visit a dealer (not the best idea with any type of aftermarket 'tune') or maybe Advan.
Either way, I've read that the N54 platform is pretty fussy so just see if it happens again. If it doesn't, no worries, if it does then you know you need to take it somewhere to be looked at. I've had a CEL before which never affected engine performance and when I restarted the engine it disappeared and I haven't had any issue since. Then again I've had CELs which resulted in a limp mode which turned out to be my HPFP. It just started happening more and more frequently until eventually it had to be replaced. But yeah, I do happen to have a PROcede (currently installed) and meth kit (never installed) that will be up for sale soon. If you are looking to purchase something and need help installing I'm more than happy to help.

I thought the JB+ was discontinued because of exactly this type of issue...
