Surely it would affect all BMWs globally?

Eddie, what happens next depends on whether the car stalls at 50km/h or 150km/h

If I am reading this correctly, all they will do is replace the clip connecting the cable to the battery and securing it "for FREE"... There's a word you don't hear out of BMW often!

Not replacing the cable from battery to fuse box.

Looks like my 3er will be part of the recall but the 1er will be fine. I'm happy BMW Aust has been quick to join the recall announcement made in the US so it doesnt leave us wondering.

If you have a piggyback tune I wonder if removing it before they do this is overkill?

Disagree....

Just because yours didn't get noticed doesn't mean none of them will...

Way I see it: It's a decision each individual has to make for themselves - balancing the time/effort of removing/reinstalling vs possible consequences of it being found on the car.

At the end of the day, make your own decision but I just can't see how it's a good idea to recommend that someone take a warranty-voiding risk like that for no reason other than to save 30 minutes of effort - regardless of what you/I may or may not do...

It's like what Clarkson says about Alfas: He'd buy one himself but he'd never recommend one to a friend.

Have to disagree..

But each to their own... If you have to ask " if its a good idea to remove", then heck, just remove if you are that concerned about a tune being detected, whilst replacing a battery connector in the boot...

IMO, its a waste of time removing the tune.

I had the injectors replaced, and on a seperate occasion had the turbo sensors replaced, without removing the tune..

BUT, if it helps you sleep at night, go for it and remove the tune..

Thanks for the conflicting opinions :-).

I had both taillights done with it in and no issue so I don't see how this would be different. And sure as hell they'd be going ultralight on the labour and not check anything else so I think I'll keep it in.

Unless they are replacing the cable between the battery and fuse box, it should take no more than 15-20 min per car.
