Yea.. plus you know that no one has messed with your original SW flash. I think if my HPFP ever goes out... I would not want BMW to do it, bc I don't want their laggy SW update. Bmroxm5 - did you think to also replace the fuel line pressure switch too? I have seen some say that is what BMW does when they do a HPFP. I think the sensor is on the top line going to the pump. PS: here are my photos of the HPFP's (N54 & N55) seen at the BMW Welt... photos of the HPFP from BMW AG engine model... http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=437693 |

See how it goes... if you get a long crank in the morning (or after any type of hard driving) then it's a sign your hpfp has approx 6 weeks to live Because you got a CEL that means you've thrown a code... if this keeps happening now what I'd recommend is clearing all codes with Procede. Removing Procede. Then giving your car a bit of a boot to store a few codes so when you take it to BMW to show them your HPFP is failing they can look at your codes and believe you. Quote:
Good point on avoiding the laggy software update |

Well thats just great.
So I assume pushing extra boost with these early HPFPs is just a ticking time bomb? Is this last pump revision the definitive version i.e. not going to f&*k up again? I admit I haven't searched but have most people in Australia managed to get a warranty replacement or are BMW aus being dicks about this? Mind you, it was wet and had DSC on. Could traction control have cut the power and forced the engine to enter limp mode to protect the turbos/engine??? |

I had the same symptoms as you under the same conditions, on my 135i running JB3 whilst on my second HPFP.. In my case, It wasn't the HPFP but the "Turbo pressure sensors" from running to much boost. |

As Joe has said it could be other things aside from HPFP. First thing I would so is see what code you got and if its a misfire I would suggest moving the spark plugs and coil pack to a different cylinder to see if the misfire will move place.
If so it is your spark plugs/cylinder |

Nah in all seriousness BMW themselves are pretty confident in this fuel pump, BMW North America usually only have ~1,000 fuel pumps in stock but with this particular HPFP revision they have 27,000+ in stock - prompting speculation there'll be an actuall recall in the US |

Hey Stu,
Just to follow up, there is a recall on the HPFP in the USA now, so when you take in your N54 for a scheduled service, your HPFP will be replaced even when it is not presenting any problems. You were on the money there! |

I visited Stu for my oil drop when he was replacing the pump.
Definitely knew what he was doing. Congrats to BMW for their placement of the HPFP, too (/sarcasm). If you're getting CELs and out of warranty, have a chat to Stu. |

Recall was done at the end of 2010, I don't think BMW Aus is doing a recall yet..

2CA3 - heating lambda sensor of front cat (shearing stress) Bank2 2C58 - Limp mode, Boost pressure control, deactivation: Boost-pressure build-up blocked (Boost-pressure control is deactivated to protect the engine.) It's likely to be those, what did you use to read the codes? Not sure if codes are the same between N54 and N55 but I assume so. Thanks |
