How do I know if I need to replace the battery?

Hey guys, my E87 130i 2007 Hatchback is having some problems to start in the morning or if I leave it parked for 2 or more days.

Is it because it needs a battery replacement? I purchased that car last year (May) with aprox. 42K miles and I really don't know if the battery was replaced already and/or when it was replaced.

The OBC displays that the battery is at 10V. Sorry about my newbie question but I am really all new on BMW.

Thanks for your replies.

I would replace the battery as there cheap mine is starting to take a little bit to get going as well and I feel it's the battery as mine take a little bit to start even after i replaced my starter motor ( had to replace my starter on a seperate issue)The cold crank amps might be running low due to the age of the battery.

Or even just find a freind with a similar battery from a new car and test his battery

Maybe it just needs an overnight charge, or a nice long drive.

You can measure the "standing" battery voltage when the car sits over night. You should see at least 12.8 volts at the battery terminals. Anything lower and your battery is toast.

Also... start the car up and check the voltage again at the battery. You should see over 13 volts. That way you know the alternator is working.

If you open the trunk compartment youll see a little window on the battery. In this window is a green diode. It will turn to yellow and subsequently red as an indication of battery health, and as a way of seeing when to change the battery.
