**Updated - USB Port Broken... Replacement Found

I was pushing the USB part of the iPod cable in (6FL) and it broke the plastic piece inside the USB port.

Any idea on how I can replace this part?

*edit... I found the part number, see below.

***For Future Reference***
I finally had a chance to pull out the USB plug section. To my satisfaction, the part was extremely easy to remove (Time ~2 minutes.)

Simply take a bone tool/ trim remover tool and pry around the entire section. You can use a flat head, but be very careful because it will scratch the plastic. The whole piece with the Aux In/USB and the cigarette lighter pops out. Undue three cables and you have the entire thing in your hand.

On the back side of the USB section, you will notice two metal clips. Simply push in the clips and push the USB part forward through the housing. While I wait for a replacement, I actually hooked up the cigarette lighter and put the housing back in.

Here is what I found.
Part #: 61319129651

The Aux in and USB port are in the same housing and I plan to break it apart to see if just the USB port can be swapped out.

I found this picture on the internet showing the housing pulled apart.

Here is the whole assembly together:

The plugs pop off the back, so those cables should not be necessary.

*****After further searching this part number was apparently superseded by 84109237653.

Just bought a used '08 135i. Found a penny in the middle console cigarette lighter driving home, it had blown the fuse and was inoperable for who knows how long. I replaced the fuse with the spare and the lighter socket worked but I got no power to my USB devices or USB/AUX working with the center console audio setups.

I'm thinking about ordering the new unit for only 40 bucks that you listed and replacing. I already got the part out and tried to measure some voltage coming from the wires but got nothing. Was wondering if anyone has had a similar issue with the lighter socket working but NOT usb and aux sockets. Very strange since they are all on the same fuse from what I see.

PS We have the same model/color. Love the SGM and thanks for the info you already put above, was helpful!

You get absolutely no sound through the aux port? I can't imagine that is powered in anyway.

Question

I recently bought a 2007 328i and the car only has one Aux installed in the armrest compartment. Although I have been thinking of installing the aux/usb socket but was wasn't sure about a few things. First I wanted to know if the usb socket is will play music off a thumb drive or iphone (standalone with out the need of aux). And where can I buy the usb wires for the back of the socket or does my already come equipped with the wiring harness for usb?

thanks,
- mike
