Welcome to HuskyPilot - congrats on grabbing one of the last 135is made! I like the combo of sapphire black and taupe leather.
Re the discussion about break-in services, I did get the oil and filter changed at 2600 miles (late but still better than waiting til 15K). Didn't have a mechanic I trusted to do the differential and manual gearbox change in South Florida, but have found a great BMW shop here in Honolulu and getting those fluids changed Tuesday @ 4100 miles. Not as soon as I should have done it but I figure it can't hurt and might help even at this point. Thinking I'm going to get the oil changed every 3K for this car. Maybe that's overkill, but my previous E46 M54 engine was basically toast at 117K, with changing the oil at the official BMW 15K intervals. Getting the car detailed on Sunday, should have some new pix from Oahu soon!

10/27/13 - East Oahu
Got the car detailed this morning and took a few photos from Hawaii Kai and the east end of Oahu.

Looking good. Glad to see it finally made it out to you there and already got your Hawaii plates, too? How is it having the car out there on the island? Does it stare longingly at times at the ocean wishing for long stretches of road to be let out on?

Less than thrilled with Hawaii's required front license plate (Florida did not require them), and the safety inspection sticker on the rear bumper. There is a little metal display plate you can have bolted to the rear bumper frame to keep that safety sticker off your paint, I need to get that done. I think the fastest I have driven since the car arrived is 70 for a minute or so. There is a small stretch of the H-3 interstate that has a speed limit of 60. Everything else is 55 or lower. Most of H-1 is 50 or 45 speed limit, and choked with traffic much of the time anyway. I drove around the windward/north shore of the island the other day on Hawaii 83, but that's all two lane road with plenty of traffic. There are some nice curves on that road at least. The other thing I miss here is XM radio - Hawaii does not have satellite coverage. Some XM forum posts say that the FCC has approved ground-based repeaters to provide service here, but so far XM has not moved ahead to actually build them.

There might actually be a work around on the satellite radio. Since our cars (if purchased after April 18) come with the free online streaming version of SiriusXM, if you download the app on your phone, you could play it through your bluetooth audio through the car, so you'd be getting the satellite radio just through the internet as opposed to the actual satellites. That's one option, unless the cell signals suck, too. I can't remember if you got your car before then, but if so, you can add online listening for like $3.50 a month and can then play SiriusXM on any computer, tablet, android based phone or iphone I reckon. |

Took a nighttime drive down Mt Eden road last night
It was so incredibly windy - I had to slow down to go around debris in the road. The car definitely got whipped with leaves, small twigs, and whatever else was blowing around. About to give it a wash and see how many marks it left! It was worth it. Thrilling drive. The wind just made it more fun.

Um, this is SHOW US your cars, not tell us about them. =P Just messing with you. I kinda want to at least put a lil cartoony version of your car on that map to show you were driving on it.
How you liking it so far? |

The drive was really nice. Definitely felt some of the drawbacks of my RFTs last night, I'm still not sure if I want to just run them down or try to replace them NOW and sell the RFTs. If I take the car out anywhere today I'll snap a not-in-my-driveway-again photo for you guys. Some car washing notes: 1: Damn our side door panels are massive. Washing the side of the car really makes you realize how big they are. 2: The way our taillights fit kinda sucks in terms of drying the car. They hold just enough water in the cracks that if you press on them every so slightly while drying, more water will run out from between the cracks 3: Drying the door sills sucks. I've never seen so much water collect there on a car 4: Go buy "The Absorber" - its like a chamois but better in every way - its the best way to pull most of the water off after you sheet the car before drying, then move on to your MF towels. 5: Need recommendations on cleaning the inside of the ends of my exhaust tips 6: My paint is holding up like a champ so far - need to go get my perma plate installed stat while it's still pristine - emailed the dealer about this

I use a small electric leaf blower for this. Solves "most" of both issues. Still requires a microfiber toweling of the door sills.

Darn, if you ordered from about January to April, you could have taken advantage of their lil ordering glitch that was giving it for free as a no charge option for some reason, which they later changed to $500. I'll take as much free crap as I can get.

Can't speak to other brands but no complaints at all about the Lux 5000k. Look dead on to me.

Or better yet, use the Metro Master Blaster 8 HP dryer. Its great, especially for all the crevices and the wheels. Just be careful not to blow your car away
