I just installed the Dimple magnet in my e39. So, since thats my DD and racking up the kms (now over 332K kms) I will be giving it a good test.

These Dimple magnets are MUCH stronger than the UUC one(s). Also on my UUC plug the paint is starting to flake off and it looks not so nice. But the main reason, is that these Dimple magnets are so much stronger. I'd say easily ten times stronger than the UUC plug. When you put the drain plug(Dimple) on a metal surface you really have to struggle to pull it off! With the UUC its not as strong. You just get a soft "click".

I saw a picture of a small sledge hammer being held by the Dimple magnet. It is THAT strong.

I will be sure to update this thread with some pics soon. Here are some from Dimple's website...

Rear drain for the manual transmission(I think you mean right?) Because... our diff's don't have a drain plug, only a fill plug.

I've had some bad experiences with the ECS sump plugs so I'll be sticking with OEM.

Just got my Dimple magnet in, was due for an oil change anyway, good timing. Price is a bit ridiculous (just shy of $40 USD shipped!), but it is a nice product. Magnet is very strong. They included a nice thread gauge and ruler tool and a total of three drain plug gaskets, which is nice.

Yes, it makes sense for those too. But... our diff does not have a drain plug. So getting a magnet for the fill hole would be pointless. For the tranny, it makes sense since we have a drain and fill hole. You only need the magnet on the bottom (drain)hole/plug.

Some OEM diffs have a magnet glued to the bottom of the case or diff cover. Does BMW not do this?

I doubt they do. When I was using a flexible hose to suck out all the old fluid in my diff(thru the fill hole/plug) I did not feel anything with said "hose".

I know BMW does use magnets in their automatic transmission pans/sumps. They put a magnet in each corning of the pan. And when I changed my tranny fluid on my e39... there was A LOT of metallic particles(fur) on those magnets! I cleaned them off and put them back in position.

I think for the engine oil sump... these magnetic drain plugs make so much sense! You won't believe on how much metallic crap is floating around in your oil!! Even with me changing my oil(and filter) like FIVE times by the time my engine had 15K miles on it(!), I still was shocked on how much metal the UUC magnet picked up.

The new magnets from dimple(drainplugmagnets.com) has an even stronger magnetic field and they look to be better made. I would really recommend them.

looking to get a differential plug magnet .. but since its a fill only and on the top side for our bmw's.. is it worth it?
id assume oil would splash up onto that fill hole in the differential, and metal bits would get attracted by the magnet.

Don't know if it's worth it but I got one from Gold Plug while I was getting the one for the sump. Thought it can't hurt.

Arrow Dimple Magnetic drain plugs - Review Soon

After reading a post of @Dackelone 's, I decided to purchase some dimple plugs. Below are some pictures of what I received, thread/bolt measuring tool and personal thank you from Dimple. (Motor and Transmission plugs ordered)

Price was about $75 shipped for two plugs, it is pricey but I dont mind supporting Made in U.S.A. products.

The plugs look to be well made and a quality product. Wish I could say the same about the ECS tuning plug I bought and never opened...

I'll update this thread around July/Aug to see if its captured anything.

I have heard great things about the dimple plugs. From what I read the magnet is far superior to other plugs on the market.

Looking forward to the review!

I picked one up as well after reading Dackelone thread. Great customer service, the shipment was delayed and they refunded me the shipping cost as an apology. Can you tell me what the measurement was for the transmission plug? Thanks
