Sold BMW and Gone to VAG

Hi Guys,

It's been awhile since I've posted anything here simply because I am no longer part of the N54 team I truly missed it ! But I believe it's being taken care of by one of forum member's here in Melbourne!

So after some hard thinking, I've decided to get my priorities straight which mean I've downgraded and decided to go for a slower car yet at the same time still fun to drive. Criteria was it had to be under $30k in price for a diesel with fairly low K's and 1-3 years old only AND NO MORE BLACK!!. I've always bought cars that are above 4 years old and all of them were 90000km from the day I took delivery and they were all BLACK!!

Shopping List:
Ford Modeo TDCI Wagon
Skoda Octavia Wagon
VW Golf TDI Wagon
Vw Golf GTD Hatch
Mazda 6 Touring(About $32k)

I've always wanted to get back to wagon so after selling my 335, I started hunting for a wagon and 6 weeks of searching I realise that all the wagons are either lousy to drive or command a high price compared to a sedan.

So I ended up with a 2012 Skoda Octavia vRS TDI Liftback with under 10000km on the clock. Options are leather only. No more sunroof, No more Keyless entry and no more dipping reverse mirror and front sensor parking which all I had on my 335 but I told myself I must atleast get leather.

The funy thing is that the built date is March 2012 but the compliance date is November 2013 in which means it's a 2012 MY12 right? or is it 2012 MY13? I always thought that MY13 cars are cars that are built on the second half of the year? The contract of sale is says MY13. I was abit skeptic about the MY for comprehensive insurance. I figured if the contract of sale is MY13 and the insurance company said it's MY12 therefore they wont pay for any claim then atleast I have a prove on the contract of sale.

Anyways back to the car, I've had it for 3 weeks already and I am loving it! Yes it's not powerful compared to my 2 scrolls but it still have 125kw & 380nm @ 1750rpm. The best thing was that after 2 weeks and travelling 600km it cost me $75 whereas previous it cost me $85-$90 for 1 week and travelling about 400km-450km.

Future Mods:
Tune(DTUK/Oettinger/REVO) Haven't decided yet. Anyone have experience with DTUK??
Better wheels and tyres
Black Grille

Thats all for now.

Pictures will be up soon. After 2 weekend of rain, finally yesterday weather was good.

Congrats on the new car Troy. Btw, it should be a 2012 MY13 as it's built to a 2013 compliance date.

Get more powar!

The MY refers to the manufacturer model where they often start building the next years refresh version in the months prior to year end and then need to differentiate the versions.

The compliance date is totally meaningless as this is local Australian government red tape crap where "authorised" bodies (importers) state compliance to the ADRs. Very few if any other countries have this compliance plate rubbish.

It's unusual for such a long time between the build date and it arriving in Australia and getting compliance plate fitted though. It used to happen years ago when cars sat around before shipping, but these days basically every car is built to each country's spec and shipped off immediately. It must've hung around here for a while before VAG Australia complied it.

Good choice! My other car is a MY10 Octavia vRS TSi station wagon in silver. I bought that car brand new which was a mistake but you live and learn I suppose.

It is a lovely car: fantastic ride/handling compromise, 'enough' power, huge luggage space and - to me at least - looks pretty cool too.

My plan was to add wheels and get a tune but my partner started driving the car more and she wasn't keen on ANY modifications.

I'm sure you'll love the car and because you did it the smart way and bought secondhand, you've actually done well out of Skoda's poor resale.

i am still not use to the fuel price transition either, but vice versa for me, went from 3 weeks of 1 tank of 80 dollar diesel in an X1 to a 135i where is 60+ every week D;

enjoy your new toy and fuel savings instead of "beating the 0-100 time" have fun doing the "how long 1 tank will last me challenge"

Funny I went the other way, been driving VW's and Audis for the last 4 cars and had a gutful of the rattly tsfi/tsi engines. Bought the n54 and cant imagine ever going back, I don't care about the fuel, this car completes me.

Oh and VWWatercooled is the best forum for dubs btw. Oh and I would suggest you get your tune from Gavin aka h100vw he is the sole distributor of Custom Code in OZ and a top bloke. He will work with you like a ptf where he will get you to do logs and send them back to the UK for tweaking until its right. Very good pricing to. I think he also does a dpf delete for ultimate diesel power (illegal of course).

Hahhaha yes the built quality between brands are two different world. But oh well i will be back eventually or maybe ill turn to the star brand especially having seen a few of the new c classes ! They look hot !

How much does he charge for a tune do you? Dtuk is only 600aud but i know its a piggy back vs a tune. Very similar to jb4 vs vieszu or any flash tunes.

I did dpf delete on my 120d and it nearly killed pete during a dyno run coz they dyno is full of diesel fumes!

So does that mean that its a my12 model? Which i believe is the actual model. But its just when it comes to insurance and selling the car then people my be suspicious..well in saying that hopefully ill keep it atleast for 3-5 year

You'd have to confirm with VAG, but I doubt a March 2012 build would be a MY13.

Because I like the torque plus it's a special car. I've driven a m3 but the daily driver it's quite sluggish unless it's revved up all the time .
