Hey guys, looking to get into a 128i and this is obviously a very desirable spec. Curious if some of the more experienced members have any insights they'd consider sharing? The fact that the transmission had to get swapped so early does make me a little uneasy about how the car was driven.

Where do you see info about replacement transmission?

someone dug it up in the carfax history, there's a comment with the specific info. Basically the trans was replaced at 7k miles, and the clutch and flywheel at 22k.

Looks like BMW swapped the transmission. I wouldn't consider it an issue, new clutch, flywheel and a different transmission mean the problem is addressed.

These six-speeds are solid units, if there was an issue, could have been due to someone not knowing how to fully drive a stick shift. They take abuse well, but if someone wasn't fully engaging the clutch while shifting, I could see it beating up the Syncros.

It would take an insane amount of abuse to ruin the transmission that quickly, and I doubt BMW would have split costs on the fix.

That clutch delay valve can cause syncro damage if your speed shifting or even quickly trying to shift, main reason why I removed mine…had two serious missed shifts near redline before I looked into why I’m missing shifts and never had before on other vehicles.

Should never have been installed on these vehicles, another thing to check is if the proper brake fluid is being used…the thinner viscosity the better.

I've done a lot of mods to my 128 up to this point and I have to say the good old clutch delay valve delete has been one of the best one (basically a free mod if you got some basic tools; and some brake fluid handy for bleeding).

Made the car feel a lot more fun to drive with a clutch that feels real and more responsive.
