Mid-Atlantic Winter plans?
Any of the DC Metro 1ers planning on a winter tire setup?
I've only lived here a few years, I know winters are really mild, but when it does snow, all hell breaks loose. I generally carpool to work with my wife so we can take her VW, or Metro in. Do you guys think it's worth the few random snow falls? Added security, save wear on the summer rubber and rims? |

nah..usually we get nothing. a few dustings a year at best. if its anything more than an inch the city will shut down anyway and you won't have to go anywhere

I was thinking of some all-seasons for the winter months... I don't suppose our stock runflats would do very well in <40 degree weather. Snow I'm not worried about, because, as stated above, when we do get it, you're usually not expected to drive in it.

I'm more worried about extreme (I say "extreme" in the relative sense) cold than snow. I don't know how the stock runflats will do with 30- and 20-degree roads. I guess we'll find out.

I am assuming if i don't push my car to the extreme, i should be fine. But having the 135i, i bet it's very tempting to push it in the corners as this is a fun little car. where in nova r u located? |

my only concern with cold temps would be stopping distance. Taking it easy for a few months or relying on DTC is worth it. Here's to hopping none of us are forced to test the "extreme" cold stopping traction. (knock on wood)
Pushed a E90 330xi pretty hard in the dead of winter with "18 perf RFT. Dry roads, little noticeable traction on corners. But that's x-drive. My Dad had an E36 M3 and got through 5 philly winters. Slid his way home (50 mile commute) a few times, but turned off DSC and got it done. thanks for the replies guys. |
