BC Insurance

So I am planning to move out to BC next year and my only concern is the cost all you Autoplan users pay for insuring your one series. The privatized insurance in AB sure makes it more affordable, but I was wondering what some of you BC 128i drivers are paying??
Thanks

ICBC doesn't descriminate against sex or age so the costs are pretty median. I don't know about a 128 but my 135 vert is around $2K per year with maximum discount.

BTW, get a letter from your present insurer to show how long you've had a safe driving record in order to get the best discount.

My 128i costs me $300-odd a month with 15% discount.

It was hell trying to build an insurance history from the UK as I went through about 11 different private insurance companies/brokers in the past 17 yrs or so.

Not all them responded so I was left with a few gaps & ICBC wouldn't accept it.

It should be much easier coming from AB.

BTW according to my ICBC rep, any letter from your previous insurer must have the following:

1 - Name & Address of insurance representative.

Basically they need to be able to send correspondance directly to that person.

2 - a phone & fax number of that person.

Again they need to be able to call & fax that person.

3 - the letter must have a signature (written not printed) on it.

4 - the letter must state the period that you were insured with that company.

5 - the letter must state that you did not make a claim or had an claim against you during that period.

6 - the letter must be on the Insurance companies official headed paper with company trading name, registered company name, business address, registered address etc.

Hope this helps.

2008 135i
I have a 43% discount (highest you can achieve)
I pay approx $2000 per year
This includes limited depreciation for the first year (or so) which I think adds about $100.

I am about 2,100 to 2,200K a year for a 128i. The insurance company don't really know a cost for repairs yet and this is why they charge this average. As claims go up, they may actually increase/decrease. Time will tell.

Felix, PM me how many years you've been driving (insured) and I'll send you back an ICBC quote.
It should be very close to what VFX pays.

ICBC doesn't discriminate against age group from what I know. It's the driving record, the car you bought and where you primarily live and drive that matters the most on premiums.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

My 21 yr old cousin pays less insurance than me for his 335 coupe because he's had 2 yrs more driving experience in BC than I do.

Even though I've been driving claim free in the UK for 18 yrs.

I pay $1144 a year collision/comp $200 ded. Seven star rating, no speeding tickets for over 15 years. But after having this car, 3 very close calls. First 2 times police just pulls beside me, and gives me a dirty look, and punches something into their computer...

Last time was friday (sat morn) 1am I see this black car zoom up along the right side of me... being the wrong side to pass, I decide to tap the gas and zoom... I quickly fly forward, but maybe 10 car lengths there is a red light, and I quickly slow... I guess this is gunning it, not racing... anyway the larger black car all of a sudden lights up, and the sirens go... My poor hart, along with 3 others in the car... and He continues through the red light... talk about close call...

Did I learn my lesson??? I thought I did the first 2 times... Hopefully I will remember this... and anyone who passes...just let them go, it's not worth higher insurance, along with tickets etc. After all we already know we are number 1.

Luck of the Jedi?

Because ICBC doesn't discriminate against sex or age. They only care about driving record, car insured and where you drive it.

It helps those who are young men driving M3's but hurts those of us who are in the age group that doesn't normally take risks.

You think $2000 is expensive? Dude, thats with a 43% discount. The highest you can get. Now imagine me "Mr. bazillion years of perfect driving" with a few tickets and an accident under my belt. Imagine car insurance in the $4-5000 range

I came from NZ two years ago, with a perfect driving record letter from my insurance company, ICBC game me the second highest discount (41% ??), but got moved to 43% after a year.

I got my 128i insurance for $2044.
