Has anyone fitted an alarm after delivery?

Hi guys,
Thanks to all who post on this forum Ive manage to purchase a 1 at a good price. Your post have given me confidance to negociate a good deal.
Being dealer stock it didnt have an alarm installed. So the priced I got from the dealer today parts+labour was $4500!!
No way I was going to pay that. I understand they got to make money but bending people over? Not me thats for sure.

Has anyone recently got an alarmed installed? and what price did you pay.

Mine was $600 CDN when I bought the car. You can buy the Alarm kit itself for $200 from Dan at United BMW. There are self installation instructions on this site. If you don't want to do it yourself, any local alarm shop in your area should be able to do it for 2 or 3 hours of labour charge. You will have to have a dealer program it for you - but that should only take an hour of shop time. Are they crazy?

Thanks to this forum, Ive read the thread for the DIY alarm and so I knew the ball park figure it should cost to do the installation as well as what is involved.
When I question the dealers tech person about what is involved and why it is so expensive, his comments are "It is not an easy installation, we will have to replace your interior roof lining, replace the door locks as well as reprogramme the whole car to work with the alarm".
As soon as he told me that I smelt bullshit and I told him from what I have learnt that is not correct. But he had gall to me otherwise. I wont be giving my service work to him thats for sure.

Update: I have now recieved my space grey 1er, fantastic car to drive, loving it everytime time I drive it.
On the alarm front, I have manage to find a place to install an alarm that works with the BMW system for the bargain price of $595 fitted.
It fully integrates and works with the cars electronics and therefore you still just carry the original keyfob around. Alarm works just like the OEM alarm. Its been two days now and I have no problems so far.
Place that I went to was Ryda in Petersham, Sydney. So to 1 owners out there, there is an alternative option if you want an alarm installed without paying big bucks to BMW.

I saw the ryda alarm a while ago. Good to see that someone has installed it without any problems

Anyone know if you can get a remote start alarm upgrade for the 1er? I had one installed in an old car of mine and was extremely handy on a hot day to get the air con going before you are in the car.

BBK, you can exploit a "glitch" in the car to have it running and all locked up with the keys safely in your pocket.

Steps:
* Start the car
* Turn off the car
* Immediately remove key
* Within a few secs restart the car (with the key removed)
* Get out and lock the doors with the key
