^ if that is the price I will laugh at them when they try to sell it to me. Dinan will make more hp, and even at their ripoff price it is cheaper while still having a warranty...

this kit supposedly adds an additional water cooler and upgraded fan? That part's probably the most interesting as they'd be nice upgrades to have in addition to an upgraded oil cooler and JB3/Procede.

I think everyone is just so interested in cars that we can't help ourselves to speculate what it may or may not be. Like someone said let the market sort this out. If BMW can't sell it at the price they will get out of aftermarket or forced to reduce price.

This is what I said on page 1 of this thread. We are speculating. I predict that the BMW performance tune and total hardware package will drive better than all the aftermarket piggy-bag tunes (with their pumped up psi's). But we will find out.

So do I. If I wanted an unrefined fast car I would've straped a 6k 400hp FI kit on my 2800lb Honda. I hope the lack of turbo lag was still a priority.

1 is pretty close to m3's performance. They can't add more than 25 horses or the M3 sales will plummet. I would get the upgrade if it were under 500 bucks. Especially, like that it's under warranty.

Lets hope that upgrade will be standard on 2010 models... At least on Tii/Supersport models (but that's too far away).
2010 335 coupe should give us good indication which way BMW is heading with this upgraded N54.. About 6-7 months to wait... |

How so? The M3 is almost a full second quicker to 60mph and has a quartermile almost a full second as well.

MT's latest on the 135i was 4.6 to 60 and 13.2 1/4 mile- the M3 is 4.0-4.1 to 60 and cant remember the 1/4, so if this really delivers BMWs .2 secs to 60 then the 1 is only .3 secs behind the M, add in the perf exhaust and intake and if it could muster a 4.3 to 60 then we're only .2 sec behind, of course this is now becoming a close race, until the first corner!

M3 = v8
M3 = LSD M3 = prestige. M3 = M Heritage Trust me, people shopping M3 are not cross-shopping 1 series.. If someone looks for 0-60 buys, then they are cross shopping mustang/sti/evo/370z/135 Last edited by amdmaxx; 02-16-2009 at 09:35 PM.. |

I don't think that many people will be cross shopping a mustang with a 135i for the most part, but a lot of people cross shop the sti/evo/370z with the 135i. How does being a v8 sell the car? it has poor torque-less than a stock 135i- and gets really shitty gas mileage... M3 has an lsd...Any moron can bolt a new lsd to a 135i for under 3k M3 drivers are known as complete assholes for the most part...Not prestige... You are correct that most people buy into the ///M marketing ploy... |

Not true - I am.
Don't give a rat's a$$ about the M prestige, I just made the mistake of test-driving it. Quote:
There are a couple more things besides the LSD that the 135i lacks, the most important being a balanced handling/suspension (not to mention the EDC) and a good set of tires/wheels. These costs quickly add up. The 135 has other advantages that are hard to ignore: mileage, size/weight and ultimately lower cost (even after upgrades). If BMW offered all these Performance Catalog goodies factory-installed (and for a smaller cost of course) I would no longer look at the M3. This is the dilemma I'm facing right now... now granted, as dilemmas go it's not a bad one to have, either way I'll end up with a great car. |

Ironic post, considering that none of the M3's heritage (for street cars) included a V8, until the latest model.

I was wrong. The part itself is $1,450.00, not $1,400.00. (Plus installation.) For the STEPTRONIC. http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=223961 |

Yeah, sounds about right.
$4k diff + $4k suspension (putting here everything, including M3 control arms and rear sway and installation) + $2k wheels/tires + $2k power/reliability (chip/FMIC) = $12k or so I had priced out a 135i ED around $38k and an M3 sedan around $53k. If you factor in $12k worth of mods to the 135, then you have only $3k difference - at which point, it's the M3 all the way for me. Which is why I would never consider spending $4k on a diff for a mostly street car... YMMV. |

Make sure you find a diff specialist to install it - this is not for the inexperienced. Make sure they know and can set the Pinion depth, the Backlash, and the Preload.
Also, there will be additional parts required.
Have Fun, Rick
