I am surpised you are rolling your fenders. I feel you shouldn't have to do this with custom wheels. Maybe it's the tires, the lowering or both but I personally wouldn't be happy.

Well I am certainly glad you didn't. There needs to be more people out there willing to show the 1 has got balls. Big balls at that!

Looks Good!
What are the offsets, I didn't see them listed anywhere? Also, were these custom built or off the shelf? Would a higher offset eliminated the rubbing? I have a set of 245/35/19, 275/30/19 sitting in the basement and wonder if I have any chance to make them work with the correct wheel offset and width. |

Sweet wheels. I am looking into some custom wheels as well with larger than OEM tires. Did you discuss fitment issues with DPE prior to your purchase? I find it somewhat odd they would not tell you the offsets. I am considering DPE but only if I be assured no rubbing, with the correct offsets. Knowing your offsets would be benefitual to me. Please pass along if you can find out. Thank You.

most custom wheel builders don't reveal the offsets they use. they assured a perfect fitment and delivered...I am still rubbing but that is because I chose to go more aggressive than most with tire sizes (especially considering my drop). If you go with DPE you will not be disappointed however there are several quality wheel builders out there!

I am new to this game - sorry if these questions are silly. I had assumed the wheel manufacturer would collaborate with you on the build and/or also would make whatever offset you requested – assuming you know what you are doing. Which I clearly do not. Also, can't the wheel be measured to get the offset. I mean its not like its a secret. The tire sizes is a function of the wheels size. Did you not discuss with them the tires you were wanting to run? I am a little confused by your statement "they assured a perfect fitment and delivered". I would assume they would have a pretty good idea of the tire sizes based on the wheel widths you requested. I am not trying to be argumentative – I just want to better understand the process and what I should expect.
Thank you for your help. |

I imagine the companies will make the rims to whatever offset you want but I didn't try that route since it is their job to build wheels to be car model specific. the rims fit perfectly and clear the necessary components which is what they promised. I told them the tire sizes I wanted to run and they could neither confirm nor deny whether I would have any rubbing issues as the e82 hasn't been around that long. There may be a way to find out what my offsets are but I don't know it. Please understand when I say I have rubbing, I am referring to the tires hitting the fender wells and that is 100% on me for wanting to run these tires and no fault of DPE. I could easily change out my tires and have no rubbing at all. I am not one to follow the crowd however and would rather make these work than switch to narrower tires. As a recap here are stock/my tire sizes:
........... Front.........Rear Stock 215/40/18 245/35/18 Mine 235/35/19 265/30/19 hope this helps

Based on what I have read, and believe me I may not be understanding what I am reading, it would appear with the proper offset you should be able to run those tires without any rubing. Am I way off base here. Can someone confirm or deny?
Agian I appreciate you speaking with me on this. |

IF my car were stock ride height (or slightly higher if I had coilovers) then these tires would not rub at all. My rubbing is due to the larger tires in combination with a lowered ride height. You are correct in that a rim's offset can prevent or cause rubbing in some ways but my rubbing has nothing to do with offset.

Hmm.. just read up on your post. Sweet looking whip.
Now, have you ever thought of running 225's in the front and keeping the backs 265? I am wondering because i am planning on running 265's in the rear and don't really want to deal with fender rolling and such. What will running 225's and 265's do to the handing?

I imagine you would have similar under steer to the stock setup if not worse. there is no reason to avoid 235 up front. If you use a tire like Toyo's T1R and don't slam the front down you shouldn't have any rubbing.
