just curious as it looks to me like the official price hasn't been anounced yet (so my guess of 80's no more valid than what I assume is your guess of 65)

every mag I've seen so far guesses at 80

RS4 seems pretty silly to me compared to the regular S4

Audi RS4

What We Know: With a 4.2-liter V8 under its newly reshaped nose, the RS4 is the new undisputed king of compact sport sedans. Consider that its normally aspirated direct-injection eight-cylinder cranks out 414 horsepower, 311 pound-feet of torque and doesn't hit the redline until 8,250 rpm. Then factor in its standard six-speed manual, self-locking Torsen center differential and driver-adjustable throttle control and you've got a Euro sedan that will wipe the asphalt with an M3. Additional upgrades include a recalibrated suspension that lowers the car just over an inch, wider front and rear tracks, a heavy dose of bodywork and unique double-spoke wheels. All RS4s also get Audi's Dynamic Ride Control system and a pair of 14.3-inch brake rotors up front for stopping power that can put you through the windshield if you sneeze the wrong way. Interior changes are minimal, but effective. The sport steering wheel looks like it came straight out of Audi's Le Mans prototype thanks to its unique shape and metallic trim. The flat-bottomed wheel also puts the driver-adjustable throttle control right at the tips of your fingers. A starter button, metallic pedals and lightweight sport seats with inflatable side bolsters round out the cabin upgrades.

BMW M3

What We Know: After the launch of the redesigned 3 Series for the 2005 model year, BMW is expected to follow up with an all-new M3 shortly thereafter. Power will come from an all-new 4.0-liter V8 with roughly 400 horses and a quick-shifting SMG transmission. No word yet on whether it will incorporate some of BMW's more advanced features like Active Steering and Active Roll Stability, but its going to need all the help it can get with a car like Audi's RS4 to contend with.
edmunds seems to agree.

wait wait. new S4(the V8 one, not old TT one) only has 340hp????
Sorry, I was careless of the new s4 because of its disgusting styling.

Maybe future line ups are turning out to be a little different. BMW coming
out very strong with their 3 series, maybe audi just couldn't keep up
with the S4. but it always has been S4 vs M3.

and I doubt the new BMW will be at near 70k.

I didn't say that the S4 competes with a 330i, it would, however, compete with a 335i.

Look at the stats of the new M3 and tell me how an S4 could compete against that?

I agree with Nikki, like I said I think the 335i will compete against the S4 and the M3 will compete against the RS4. Right now there is a gap in the BMW line and I think thats where the 335i fits in.

You are correct there... for now. But there is not so much of a gap in the 3 series line as there is too many Audi's in the 4 series line.

The new gen S4 (2008?) might be back competing with the E90 M3. On side note, the RS4 is and its 420hp and not 414. Also with a 40/60 awd split hopefully around 65k, but most speculations have it at 70k.

Either way, if this 335 comes to fruition then thats probably what I'll get because its the only one that might be remotely in my price range. Plus, if it really is turboed (kinda suspect to me) it will have endless modding potential.

Smile

Ehh... I love predictions

2006 325 (3.0l; 215 HP) -> 2007 323 (2.5l, euro 325 motor; 218 HP)
2006 330 (3.0l; 255 HP) -> 2007 328 (3.0l; 255 HP or slightly more)
2007 335 (3.0l bi-turbo; 340 HP)

btw, 323 w/ 2.5l is already on sale in Canada... b4 we had E46 320 (2.2l), 325 (2.5l) and 330 (3.0l). Now it's 2006 323(2.5l), 325(3.0l) and 330(3.0l). Doesn't make sense to keep 323 AND 325 for long, doesn it?!?
So I think 328 is not nonsense at all.

I'd guess the 330i should be going up in power too. Since the 130i is already at 265 BHP vs. 255 BHP in the 330i

Ooops. I was just looking at www.bmw.co.uk and the 330i is (190 kw) 258 BHP and the 130i is (195 kw) 265 BHP.

Which is actually weird because 195 kw is 261 HP, not 265 HP.

The reason for the higher hp in the 130i vs the 330i is the shorter exhaust. The engines are exactly the same.

A fully loaded new M3 might be 65-70k but I think the bare bone model will be around 53-54k.

I would tend to agree with you on that, most people don't know that the current base is only $48,900

given the price will probably increase with the more power........
base ought to be about right where bobbo said 53-54

Umm, 340 hp from a normally aspirated 4.2 liter engine is pretty darn good, and if you ever drove one, it is a very comfortable every day car. (unlike a V6 M3).

The new 4.2 liter engine gets closer to 420 hp, using FSI direct injection, and is also getting high marks for drivablility. This engine also revs to 8250 RPM, which is about 1,250 more RPM than my 330i can do. Not bad for a V8.

No doubt the BMW V8 for the new M3 will put out more horsepower per liter than the S4, but probably not more than the RS4.
