Outside Temprature Gauge!

When I got my car in August, I found my temprature gauge was not working, it just showed -- when in Farhenheit mode  But it was working fine in Centigrade mode.

Later on when Vegas stared to cool down, I found that it does not read above 85F, below 85F it works fine, but as soon as it hits 86F, it goes --

Yesterday I took it to the dealership and they fixed it, now I have to wait, as Vegas is cooler, I hope it hits 86F or more in the nest few days, so I can check it out.

I also got the dealership to program my auto-locks at 5 MPH.

All else is fine with the car and I love its drive

What was the actual problem/fault? Did they tell you what it was.

Glad you had it sorted quickly.

Congra. on your new ride..

You are talking about the temp. display on the radio? I assume.

My display does the same thing. Sometime it work and then it go --.

It could be the program or first year production.

I don't know the actual problem, but they replaced the temprature sensor.

As I said before, I will know if they are successful only if the temp hits 86F

I've notice that when I select BC on the menu and display the stats, often my temp is -- even though it is displayed with no problem in the control panel. Just curious, was your control panel display OK or were they both on the fritz?

Temp. gauge only on the radio was not working, the one near the speedometer has been fine always.

... in that case it must have been a software issue. I can't imagine that they would have two separate sensors - that doesn't make sense, and is not cost effective for BMW. Most likely, the software that handles the display on your radio was not well written and a new patch has been installed.

not sure I'd call it great.... I'm getting over 27 mpg consistently.

Oh, don't tell anyone but I'm using 89 octane too! And I've never heard a knock or noticed decreased performance....

That was all around town driving, now with some highway miles I have about 27 mpg listed there. I averaged 31 on a trip up from Tuscaloosa in August.

You ave a non-nav USA car ?

Then this is a known error

It is a software error and should be fixed by the latest software

From BMW USA :"When BC (Board Computer) is selected for the RAD2 display, the temperature readout changes to dashes when the outside temperature rises above 85F. The display continues to function normally when the temperature is shown in Celsius."
