On some Blizzak LM-60's 17's... First winter. I thought about storing kinda wish I hadn't sold the R32 would have made a good winter ride. But too $$$ to have both cars. Hopefully winter is mild and they don't skimp on plowing. |

I'll be sure to get in contact come spring... Maybe we can arrange a good group buy price on the LSD when that time comes.

Wow...it's been a while!
I'm ready to do my first mods. I'm thinking about doing some suspension tweaks. Most vendors are from the states and given I live in Windsor, I don't want it shipped to Canada and get dinged with the duty costs. I'm curious..does anybody know of a shop that I can have goods shipped to and can also do the alignment on the car? FYI-my plan on my first visit a)M-Front Control Arm Kit (need alignment after install) b)Front Sway bar c)M-Rear Guide Rod, Upper Link (need alignment after install) d) CDV modification @jtsherri--didn't your friend Clayton have a shop? @everybody-any chance on putting together a mini 1-meet and Kart-2-Kart afterwords? One more thing--any feedback on my mods and what I should do and what I shouldn't do is always appreciated. |

Clayton's family owns a collision shop, but I'm not sure they accommodate such work. My friend Jan (pronounced "yahn") owns Speed Industry in Troy and has actually worked on a few of the local 1ers and a few 3ers, as well. His is actually the only shop that touches my own car. Praveen/coolguy had his rear sway installed there; however, he had his KW v2 setup installed and aligned at VR Performance in Sterling Heights. They work on a lot of local BMWs and while I don't have any experience with their work, I've never heard anything bad about them either. I'm game for a 'mini-meet' if you decide to have either shop do the work on your car. Also, the CDV is a piece of cake... I had never laid my hands on ANY BMW before and did the install for a friend that got his 1er before mine. It took no more than 10 minutes, not a drip of fluid leaked and the system never needed to be bled. You *may* consider doing this on your own.

Thanks Jtsherri
Going to make some phone calls tomorrow.... The front sway bar may wait....looks like I need to do more homework on that right now. Maybe I'm in forum fog...but need to double check threads before committing. I'm just curious...how many people put their 1's away for the winter? Weather (snow) permitting, I'm going to throw out the following dates and see what we get back. Saturday November 28 Sunday November 29 Saturday December 5 Sunday December 6 Sunday December 13 Saturday December 19 Sunday December 20 Anyone interested? |

No problem, man. Mine won't be put away this year. I'll likely be putting the snow tires on this weekend, actually.
Make your calls and let you know what day you come up with. I'm kind of hit-or-miss when it comes to availability and the holidays - lots of family stuff & birthdays. If I can make it I'll be there though.

Looks great! What are the details on your setup???
Mine are going on this weekend. And I think I'm putting my JB3 on the "Stock" map until Spring to avoid destroying them and so it feels like a whole new car once the Summers go back on.

Now that's a good looking winter setup.
Mine's very boring, but the price was right ($500 with <2000 miles on 'em). The additional sidewall is nice and aggressive, but the wheels are generic.

I'll try and get a pic tonight or two tonight. I picked the wife up a fine, German auto last week, so will try and get a few shots while we're waxing it tonight before it hits the road tomorrow:
(Click for larger version(s)) I call this one: "44 valves, 10 cylinders, 5 liters, 4 cams, 3 turbos, 2 cars... And a poster of the Nurburgring." (You can ever-so-slightly see the side profile of the wheels in this pic...)

Nice Tig but you may lose it in the snow
My wife totes around in an A4 Avant and I should say that I do to when the snow gets to deep for the 1.

When it comes to winter though, I can honestly say that I haven't been in a vehicle that can begin to compare to my STi in the snow... Unless the snow was so packed that it would lift the front end off the ground, that thing was absolutely unstoppable. I'd plow right through snow stacked as high as my hood, provided it wasn't packed/heavy. On the weekend, during the nights where we'd see several inches of snow, I'd literally wake up at 5:00-5:30 AM to go out and "rally" before anyone else was out on the road. I could carry sustained drifts across 3-4 lanes and hold the thing sideways while driving down the road. I can't wait to own another one for the winter!
