Sounds great to me. Thanks for the information!

There was much talk about the 1series ///M car for the last few years in the motoring community. But it's the market, not the history which will decide what will they do next here. There is much talk about the M1 car, the "yes" and "no" sides, everything has been accounted in this, but we won't really know until the people over at Munich decide what is best in this case. My vote goes for any car, no matter what it's badge will be, that is small, has a 50:50 balance, lot's of power, an LSD included, with options to make it even faster then.

All the rest is unimportant here, just like the name of the car here. Who really cares what it will be called, if it's good looking, fast, performs well on the track and people buy it and love it really.

A source told me that the M1coupe, 135is or something to that effect will be powered by the same powerplant that's in the 2011 BMW Z4 sDrive35is. Rated at 335hp /332tq...

1. We done another naming clinic. This is our third. And whilst some of the specially chosen clients recognised the original M1 , The overall majority voted to use "M1" ahead of other choices selected for the car as it feels like a rightful addition alongside M3 and M5.

Which leaves us with the dilemma. Our three focus groups have in majority selected "M1" it may look like BMW might have to "bite the bullet" and call the car M1. Time is running out. (Thanks for your participation , remember the NDA prevents you from talking about it)

2. Soon we put the car into the launch cycle where we will unveil it for our distributors and agents across the world , so they can relay the information to their dealer network who will relay that information to the customer.
It lets the dealer and consumer know that it is coming.

3. The car will soon be hitting the Nürburgring (Nordschleife) for extensive chassis testing and honeing and fine tuning the handling.
This is a significant moment in marketing terms, because the press will be there for their spyshots which will bring interest from many parties across the world as the 1-M will feature in print , as exclusive front page and main feature specials giving BMW maximum exposure and raising the excitement bar that such a concept is on the horizon.

4. The car will film within the Los Angeles area over the Summer.

5. Social media will be used to communicate the new car to a new demographic of customers.

Thanks for the info Scott. How soon is "soon?" And what kind of details will be unveiled?

The M3 GTS test drives by the media will be happening in the next few weeks.
So the auto media will be descending on M amongst interviews with M personell and of course Dr. K Segler.

Expect the announcement that it is coming , but nothing more until later this year.

It would really add to the credibility of the bearers of the M1 news if some ''preliminary'' specifications were released instead of vague statements about the beginning of the road test. The news at least confirm that M1 has not been scraped. Thanks to the OP for posting the information.

Don't you mean destroying the legend of the original M1 supercar.

It will have turbos, not a true M car.

Good grief. It has airbags, traction control, pretensioning seatbelts, hydraulic brakes, zenons, door intrusion bars, coil on plug ignition and a whole smorgasbord of other things that things in the 70's didn't have. Hell, it doesn't even come with an ash tray, the horror!

Seriously folks, the old, half Lamborghini M1 should have no bearing on a modern M1. If you're looking for heritage, look no further than the original 328 and compare that to a new one. This is almost as tired as discussions about Mustangs and break in procedures.

It s a 6 cil AG engine with two small turbo s which is from the z4 3.5is the suspension diff and brakes etc is from the M3 and the body is from the 135i coupe.

Pff what would you call it. ///R1

R from Recycle.

It s certainly not worty to put an M1 name on. There not the usual developments on this car like most ///M have had. This car only exist because they can use parts which have already been made from other AG and //M cars. Just to wring the last money out of those old parts.

An M1 would have a lightweight engine with lightweight drivetrain. A small ///M diff with lightweight 4 or 6 pot brakes nice racy seats alcantara steeringwheel. New parts. Not some grab from the parts bin parts M1.
