Question... FMIC + Dinan Stage 2?
This is probably a noob question but WTH. So I'm considering the Dinan Stage 2 tune and also an FMIC. I've seen some posts where people mention it's necessary to do a re-flash when adding an FMIC to get max benefit from it. Is that true? Would it be best to add the FMIC prior to getting the tune?
I guess what I really don't know is how the process of actually tuning the car takes into account the presence of the new intercooler. How does that work? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks! |

from what i've seen and read, getting a tune will maximize your results with an intercooler. you will still see gains on the stock ecu software with the intercooler, however, they just won't be as impressive as with a tune. make sense?

Iknow when the dealer flashed ur car there are questions that ask if you have a exhuast/intercooler... could change the parameters of the tune slightly, but not really sure.

They call that Stage 2.5. People who've tried it say there's a bigger performance difference between Stage 2 and 2.5 than between Stage 2.5 and 3. I would have guessed it keeps the boost up into higher RPMs, but if it makes such an obvious difference, I guess it also increases the peak boost.

more importantly an fmic, through more efficient cooling, allows the turbos to remain at peak efficiency for longer periods of time.

I actually have Stage II and will be slapping on a FMIC in about a week, so I can chime in then, but I'm not paying whatever the cost is to be reflashed to Stage III. I really don't know Dinan's protocol on someone with Stage II, FMIC and Oil cooler. I guess I can find out. There's an off chance they might be willing to just reflash the car to Stage III because you've already paid for Stage II.

So it sounds like having an FMIC installed does in fact change the parameters when the Stage 2 is flashed. That's good information to have as it will likely change my upgrade order. Seems like it would make sense to do the FMIC first unless anyone else has conflicting info? Thanks for the info all. Much appreciated. |

That's true, if you have a single aftermarket part when running dinan that is not theirs, the dinan warranty is voided. Yet another reason not to go with dinan

I'm going to ask Dinan what happens if I add the cp-e FMIC/OC. With 20% current discount, the Dinan FMIC and OC come to $2638. With introductory discount, the cp-e combo unit is $850.

^ True, but the CP-E oil cooler that comes with the FMIC doesn't look like much. Dinan's is quite expensive (As are all their products) but it is a damn nice unit. I run 15ish degrees cooler on average with it as opposed to stock.

I called Dinan today and asked about installing the cp-e FMIC/OC. The SA I spoke with said extra cooling by itself won't void the Dinan warranty. But he also said Dinan will not allow the Stage 2.5 or Stage 3 tunes with anything except the Dinan FMIC because they haven't tested anything else. So if you want FMIC for longevity, the cp-e is okay. But if you want a tune with more boost, it has to be the Dinan FMIC.
