I went to apple's site and they have not updated their info if this is true.
http://ipodyourbmw.com/ Go to the link and press the play button "launch" and go to "just the facts". |

I got piece of info via email from BMW Press. They included a link to their press website but that page was not reachable for some reason. I've checked ipodyoubmw.com and yes, it still says not available on 2006 BMW 3 series. I just thought the press release should be a relatively updated source of info therefore I posted a link. If the link is back up, it should be viewable at : www.press.bmw.com

So does this mean that integration will be in newer manufactured e90's only?
Or in a month or so Can I go to my dealer and have it installed? (Please please please)

Also check on www.bmw.com (The International Version). On the homepage, click on "iPod Integration" then "The facts". It seems to be saying that the 1 series and 3series (models from 03/05 onwards) additionally offer "access to the entire iPod music collection as well as selection of genres, artists, albums and any amount of playlists." On the other hand, the E46, Z4, X3, X5 "allows you to play all stored tracks or five individual playlists, controlled using the multifunction steering wheel or BMW Radio.

This is the link they provided in the email:
http://www.press.bmwgroup.com/pressc...ID=1072332729c Unfortunately, I can't find anything under that date too. I shouldn't be a mistake by BMW Press shouldn't it? Since someone must have typed up the 'summary' of the press release in the email that I have received. |

The 1 series isn't available in NA, yet. It sounds like that press release is for the EU only. And we all know the EU and NA 3 series get different options. I think the ipodyourbmw website is focused on NA models so that would be why its not listed there.
Just my guess based on the wording of the release. |

A few weeks ago, someone posted a link to the German manual for iPod integtration. It was an official BMW doc and it seemed to be the same iPod kit that has been available for earlier 3 series.

I live in Germany and was informed by BMW yesterday, that for some of the E90 models the iPod integration already exists. It depends on your specific configuration though. They didn't give me any details but asked for my car's ident number. I am going to get a more detailed answer soon, I hope.
As far as I know the E90 has a completely new bus and cabling system (based on light fiber cables) to which you can not connect any of the older integration systems (based on copper cable). |

To answer the question why wouldn't the offer it? IMHO it wasn't that good.
It's nice to be able to see the song title and to advance the playlist, but you can't get at the main menu, so unless you're happy going through one playlist while you drive, it's frustrating. And because the iPod is in the glove box, it's very inconvenient to get hold of it. You certainly can't do it while you're driving. For controlling the iPod, you're much better off with it in the center console. Considering the trade-offs, I'd rather have the center console option.

well if they don't come up with something soon, it's going to be a denison icelink lite. connects to the middle console (or whereever else you want), charges the pod and connects line out to your radio.

I've also heard about an upcoming iPod solution, however rumor has it that if you have the Bluetooth Option, you won't be able to fully integrate your iPod w/ BMW's solution. well that kinda blows...
