Maybe the highest search phrase will become “where am I?”

It would be great if you can retrofit, but I doubted.

I'd bet you're right . A damned shame. I'd actually pay BMW some dosh if I could upgrade my '08 iDrive to the '09 look and feel, but it ain't gonna happen. Neither is this or the video out thingy. What a missed opportunity.

I rang BMW on this, because my car doesn't have "Park"

BMW advises slightly different Google will be offered to manual drivers, thus:

Might be new for us, but the Germans have had "ConnectedDrive" for a long time. I would hope they can provide a retrofit to a MY09 iDrive.

I believe this one is a iDrive 4 with full connectivity using your mobile phone. Connect drive access the internet through the iDrive - if that make sense?

Gents, I'm pretty sure I read on one of the articles about this that there is no "upgrade" path. Which makes sense as you'd be talking about a "data" connection between the phone and unit offering the internet access.

Whilst I understand if BMW intend not to provide a retrofit, still cannot see why it could not be made to work. Car has both Bluetooth and USB interfaces, so if it goes via the phone, it could be "Tethered" (Using the phone as a modem) just like from a PC now to provide Internet Access via an iDrive software update.

I love how the knee-jerk reaction of the authorities is 'OMG YOU WILL BE FINED $154 FOR USING NEW TECHNOLOGY.'

Wow. What a lucky country we live in.

I am curious as to how the system will work with a manual. Neutral coast down a long gradient while facebooking anyone?
