Lightbulb UPDATED!!!

So thanks to this clusterfuck of a post, I was finally able to drive this beast I've been on the hunt for. Yesterday I drove to NOLA and met up with Bluesunit, where he proceeded to let me drive his 6MT 135. SO, needless to say, I will be pulling the trigger on one just as soon as I can. I'll keep you all up-to-date.

Bluesunit, you're a great guy and I can't thank you enough for your trust and generosity.

the 11s are hitting dealer lots every day. I gotta believe that you can find an '11 6MT on a dealer lot!

tell your dealer how interested you are and if they are worth buying a car from they will get a demo sent up to your area

I understand what you mean with the auto [DCT]. It's just not as involving . . . and there's a hesitation when taking off from a stoplight. The dealership I went to only had 135s and 335s in the auto and I was disappointed. Luckily for me the dealership had a 2nd location on the other side of Jacksonville with a 6MT 135i on the lot and I went and drove that one. My only suggestion would be for you or your dealer to call other dealers looking for a 6MT for you to try.

There are only a handful of BMW dealers within a few hundred miles of me, and all have them have told me they simply do not order manual transmissions. I tried that route, calling every dealer from OKC to Dallas (about 11) all of them said I'm just out of luck. I may try again, but thanks for the advice either way.

That's a sad state of affairs. I can go to at least 3 different SF bay area dealers and find a manual to test drive. Lazy Americans, all of us. (that said I have a step because my wife refused to drive my last 5-spd car)

I couldn't agree with you more.

I've done this at least weekly for months now. Ebay, Carmax, and autos.yahoo as well.

No sir, never heard of him/her. I did, however, have a terrible experience at BMW Edmond. Completely disrespectful and ensured I would not buy from there.

We visited 4 dealers in my area and none of them had a manual 135i to test drive either .

The 6MT sport pkg 128i was way more fun to drive than a DCT 135i, so because of reliability concerns, gas mileage, price diff, and the fact that she can steal my STI anytime, we ended up ordering an ED M sport 6MT 128i for my wife. Unfortunately, none of that helps you and this post is useless. Sorry! Hope you get to test drive a 6MT 135i somewhere.

I had the same feelings. I drove an auto, and ordered a 6MT. We'll see how much I like it when it arrives mid august.

I have never seen a dealer ordered 6MT as a lot car.

Was it a red 2010 from Tom Busch? I drove up from Orlando to drive that one and while I was very impressed with the actual gearbox, I was upset by how soft the clutch was. It was still enough to convince me that it was at least, almost as good at the 6 speed in my 01' S2000.

I must say though, I absolutely LOVE the 6 speed in my 2011! I don't know if it was because half the state of Florida had been abusing that poor red 135, or if it was just a difference between 2010-2011, but there was a night and day difference in clutch feel.

That's funny. It's the same reason I bought a 6-spd.

+1

My story was: went to the dealer to order a 2010 or 2011 and drove back with a 2010 from the lot with a great deal (because as you know the love to move units so they will work a better deal with you if you found what you need on the lot) it has everything i wanted expect the CA .

We're kind of getting off-topic. I'm glad that everyone here had an opportunity to drive one, but I'm looking to figure out how I can. I'm in the middle of the country, and 95% of the bimmers here are 328s.

I would expand your search to 335i 6MTs as well, as they have the same transmisions. Between CPOs and new 335i 6mt i'm sure u will find one since there is a much larger volume of 3series compared to the 1 series

Actually, I'm pretty sure it was this one.

Love the step.

I don't think that driving one will help. I think you are already committed. Why not order and be PLEASANTLY surprised!
