135i Upgrade Path - DP or JB3

Hi,

I'm set on getting a cp-E Cat-back system for my 2008 135i, and I'm interested in going a step further.

For about the same price, my options would be:
1) CP-E or similar (AR design) downpipes to go full turbo-back
2) JB3 package with dual-cone intake & BT cable

For the first step, which is the better upgrade path? I'm getting the reso's with the CP-e catback. If I go full turbo-back, would I have to make any other immediate mods to support the higher exhaust flow? Would be interested in people's opinions.. thx

Definitely recommend getting the tune first, the gains are much greater than dps on a stock tune.

If you went the dp route, you would definitely need to get the o2 sensor fix as well to prevent ses light from popping up.

JB3 2.0 PNP first, then other complementing mods later...

Yep, as others mentioned, JB3 should be the first step. It's the gateway performance mod

Alright, sounds like an easy enough decision then

Might not be suited for this thread, but for someone who is not experienced with tuning like myself be best off with the JB3 or CP-E Standback? The standback looks nice because of the flexibility, something to learn down the road ..

I would do the JB3, it comes with a variety of preset maps depending on what mods you have on the car so you can't mess it up. There is also extensive support for the product both through your dealer and Burger themselves.

IMO you need to tune first - need to give the exhaust system a reason to flow more - hundreds more CFM aren't just magically come out your exhaust system without burning more fuel and pumping more air - the tunes set that up for you...

Definitely the JB3 over the Standback if you're not experienced in tuning yourself. The Standback is pretty powerful but does not come with anything besides a basic map to get you started. All the actual tuning is the buyers responsibility with regards to boost and fuel maps amount other things.

For the price of a Standback have you also taken a look at the Procede?

Yes, Having done both Dp's and the JB3, I can honestly say the JB3 is FAR more of a gain and a higher exponential gain as you continue down the modified path.

If do look at Dp's feel free to check our's out.

Definatly get the tune first. I would really look into the procede V4 though, you should try both as they have a return policy and return the one you like the least. This is the only way you get what you really want, trust me.

Thanks for the responses, gives me some good ideas Nah, I haven't looked at the Procede, but I will check it out; looks like it pushes more torque? Is a PnP harness also available?

I went JB+ and Berk Axleback and love the results (a milder version of what where your going). The car is a beast yet is usable power on a daily basis.

I would say to add NEXT = JB3 + BT Scan. Instead of the intake, I would opt for a P3Cars boost gauge that will make map switching easy and the gauge is informative.

I recently did the solenoid by-pass which added some kick in the pants but I'm not sure if its done with the JB3? Check w/ Burger on this step.

No disappointments w/ Burger products or their service and for this reason a board favorite.

Definitely get the jb3 and instead of the cat back, get kittyless dp's. With the dci, jb3 and those type dp's, you can run jb3 on map 7 with 93 octane and you will love it!

The only way the procede comes is pnp now so you are good there. My personal experience with both is that the procede is alot more fun to daily drive.

Hmm, the P3 boost gauge looks nice; are there any other alternatives around the same value? If not, I might get this - convenient and useful

Nothing else looks like it belongs as does the P3cars gauge.

Location is good not great (like for racing) but the gauge rocks - looks OEM and very subtle. Has a max boost button which is informative. Same button toggles between JB3 maps. Install is straightforward and quality components. It comes with a whole new vent, so its un plug old vent, plug in new, tap boost and electric.

This is for me 1) the interior mod and 2) if your gonna fiddle w/ your boost, you should know what your putting out.
