DIY How to read your (instrument pannel) software version...
Hi Guys,
(NOTE!) Its been pointed out to me that this DIY only reads the software version of the instrument cluster and NOT the engine ECU! I was playing around with my car and I found a simple way to read what software version your car has loaded. Here is what to do! When you put the key fob in the slot this is what the dash will show: time and temp. ![]() With the key fob in the slot, start the engine. Press and HOLD the trip reset button down for about fifteen seconds. After seven seconds you will get the service reset light to come on... KEEP HOLDING THE TRIP RESET BUTTON DOWN! This is what will show up after fifteen secs: ![]() Screen zero... this is your car's VIN last numbers: ![]() This is the first screen in this hidden menu. I have no idea what it means. ??? Anyone? ![]() Now use the trip reset button to toggle thru the menu... screen two... ??? ![]() screen three... ??? ![]() screen four... this is the date that your car was built on! ![]() screen five... ??? ![]() screen siix... SOFTWARE VERSION your car has! :-) ![]() screen seven... ??? ![]() screen eight... last screen... ??? ![]() I would like to have you guys check your software and see who has the latest software version. Also report wether your car drives ok or has the dreaded "lag". Mine feels great and has little to no lag. No problems to date! So... who has a SW code newer than mine? 99.50.80 Dackel PS: In case you missed my How to reset your servicemaint lights... here is the link: http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=415111 Last edited by Dackelone; 09-14-2011 at 08:12 AM. |

This is something similar I found a while back, but I think it requires iDrive.

I am not sure what the software code you discovered refers to, but when I asked what software version I was updated to, this is the number they gave me.
E89X-10-06-502 There is no number remotely close to this in the menus you found.

Software Version 2.38.1, released in June 2010, is E89X-10-06-501 ISTA/P so yours must be just a little newer than that.

you can also get the password to your system by adding up the last 4 digits of your vin (i think that's the formula, it's been several weeks since i've done this). once you "unlock" the system with the password, there's a lot more info available to you

Thanks Bryce.
Someone over at the e90 forum told me this just gets you the SW version of the instrument pannel. And NOT the ECU/engine software version. I wish there would be an easy way for "us" to look up our SW version without going to the dealership. That way we could "tell" when they update our SW without asking us! Dackel |

Hi Guys,
Yesterday I was over at my local dealer and asked them IF they could print out my SW version. They did not know IF that info was stored on the key fob or not. It was! Actually there was three pages of ECU info and serial numbers on that key fob! ISPA info.My SW version is: 255.255.255 MSD81 I am told this is the latest sw update since I just had my seatbelt recall done to my 2010 N54 135i. ![]() |
