I like it too. If I didn't already own an M3 and were in the market all over again, I would strongly consider the 1M (though maybe not, given my love of NA engines).
It would have been nice had BMW stuck a CF roof and a taller bootlid on that thing, but I wouldn't make any other changes. Hell, I wish the M3's front and rear bumpers were as aggressive as the 1M's.

nice second option for people considering cars in the 335i price range, that want a more sport oriented car...
it's just not for me, i honestly don't like how they put an n54 in an ///M car... albeit cost prohibitive, they should have developed their own high revving N/A engine (screw gas milage) with around 380hp

wonder if it can be driven in the winter, do they make snow tires that would fit OEM wheels

Highly doubt it. It's not a Ferrari , or even a Supra for that matter.

Well it has been a fun run... with all the speculation finally put aside I have to say it is a very sharp looking car and the interior is nothing short of spectacular.
However, for myself... straight up I am not buying a car for the interior and quite frankly the car is simply too fat and a good 50hp underpowered from where it should have been. With a $46,000 price tag, that means it will likely be coming to Canada with a $58,000 price tag (based on how other cars are priced) and that is a $15,000 premium for 29hp, an LSD and 70lbs of weight reduction. I just don't get it... this could have been great, but trying to keep it down below the M3 has turned it into a bit of a dud. Unless it does magical things on the track when C&D or R&T gets their hands on it for testing, I am out. |

6spd manual only, RWD. Gosh, and you people can afford an M3, etc? haha...

I agree that most people cant drive a car to it limits, however there are ways to make a car more friendly to a novice driver and peak handling isnt it, good torque that makes up for a slight lack of corner speed it it. Like I was comparing before with the 2011 Mustang to the M3, the mustang was only marginally slower with a pro driver behind the wheel. An the average driver would likely post quicker lap times in the more easily drivable Mustang GT.

I was hoping the M car would either drastically increase the horsepower and widen out the stance... or conversely drop a lot of weight off the car to try and make it more responsive (personally I prefer the lighter option). The problem is neither of those have occurred... it had a marginal increase in power and a negligible decrease in weight, what has really been accomplished here? The wider stance looks promising, but a 135i with a set of sticky tires likely can pull the same corners off as this car... not to mention for autocross a narrower can can often get through elements a lot quicker anyway. I don't know, maybe it will be surprisingly once the comparison reviews start to come out.... I just can't help but feel disappointed at the moment. I was basing my numbers around the 328i convertible, it goes for 45,500 in the US and 57,300 in Canada.... I would assume the price scheme would be similar, but who knows. |

But I really doubt that an average driver would post a better time in the mustang vs the M3. My bet is that it would be very close, driver fear being the limiting speed. They are both very quick and if you keep the revs up pretty responsive. IMHO the M3 corners better but the average driver wouldn't use it anyway. But the M3 wins hands down on interior style! Lets arrange a blind test! oh wait... |

I have been shopping for something new to upgrade into. It is either this or an STi. I am waiting to hear on if this will be available for ED. If so, I am down for this car. Perfect to cruise the coast with and also get a few HPDE's with right out of the box.
