Activating Rear Fog Light switch with Lego

1st post and it's a DIY. Sometimes we get dense fog around where I live so I was interested in utilizing the rear fog lamps for foggy mornings, but didn't want to pat $100+ for the euro switch. I searched on the 3'ers forums and found a way to activate the switch by using the one you already have, plus something almost everyone will have lying around the house. I used Lego and it worked really well. This was a very easy mod that I was able to do in about 20 minutes.

I used steps 1-3 to gain access to the switch

This to open the switch

And I made something like this. I used Lego as well. I had to trim the 2 width piece and I used 3 square tall pieces with the nipple on the last cut off.

I'm a happy camper! I bought a used switch for a decent price, so I didn't have to mod mine. I followed the instructions from burgertuning.com. It all went surprisingly smoothly, and now I have rear fogs. And, of course, 2 new dashboard indicator lights - one for the rear fogs, and one for the front fogs that I don't have on my 135i. (Guess I need to find a use for that switch.)

I would only add to the bugertuning.com instructions that, in my car, there are FOUR #20 torx screws (not 3) to remove in step 3. And, to remove the switch from the panel, press up FIRMLY on the 2 large tabs below the switch - it will pop right out of the panel.

Anyway, thanks to Little1er for the link.

Yep! Six months and everything is still working perfectly. It is definitely great to ward off the tailgaters that get too close

After the four small tabs are broken to make the button pushable.

Insert orange piece

Place yellow piece on top and carefully snap close the whole assembly, no glue needed, everything will stay in place as long as the yellow piece touches the nipples when the box is closed

Thanks for the addition. Anything that fits the gap will work. I got the lego idea from the e90 board. I'm surprised more people aren't doing this.
