I wonder which models are $1,395 as the 1 series price is $1,595 according to BMWUSA.COM. And don't forget, that this is not an extended warranty - it only covers maintenance for 2 years, so if you are easy on brakes, it's probably not going to be cost effective.

IIRC, BMW doesn't offer extended warranties - except for CPO cars. Your dealer might sell you a third party extended warranty, though. Tom |

I've purchased the extended Warranty....up to 6 years / 100,000 miles......I was very specific to make sure it was the BMW warranty and not a 3rd party. The 3rd party can be customized to your needs but if the company goes under (like the 3rd party "tires for life" did) you could be left with nothing.

Two questions then...
1) Can second-owners purchase extended maintenance? 2) Can second-owners purchase the extended warranty? I'm pretty sure the answer to both of these is no. |

The thing that they dont tell you is that you need to apply before your car hits 45K miles...got screwed by that little unknown clause
Car was at 45120 miles and they wouldnt give me one

The fine print is what kills people. You have to buy it before the 40k or 45k mile mark in order to qualify for the extensions I believe...
Since you are still under warranty you can also get extended maintenance if you don't do it yourself.

Has anyone calculated what all the scheduled maintenance fees would cost without the maintenance plan? I bet it doesn't save much money if any to purchase the extended maintenance plan when compared to someone who completes the same maintenance at the dealer and pays for each maintenance. Can anyone confirm this?

Unlike extended warranty, which is basically just a gamble between the purchaser and BMW, and may be worth it if your car requires expensive warranty work, extended maintenance seems like it must have a predictable value. After all, if they're only going to cover "scheduled" maintenance for a certain # of miles, that should work out to a precise # of oil changes, brake jobs, etc. And it seems like if that's the case, BMW would certainly do the math in their favor, right? Am I missing something? |

Would be interesting to see the math but wouldn't it have to make some broad assumptions about the frequency of needing to replace consumables like pads and rotors? THose aren't necessarily on a schedule, but are covered by the extended maintenance...

I did, however, purchase the extended warranty. Just look at the cost of the electronic components. About two failed modules will set you over the purchase price of the warranty; I've already had my radio replaced so I know that wouldn't have been cheap. For me, it's insurance. I simply reconcile that cost into the overall cost of the car. |
