I think the N55 is a downgraded engine harder to tuned and that way BMW don't suffer from warranty issues cause by mods.
If the N55 is so great why is not been used in the new 1 M Coupe. BMW knows the potential of the N54 and that's why they are leaving N54 as the higher power option for the best in their class (335is and 1M). Thats just my opinion |

The n55 is already nearing 400hp with 14lbs of boost and pump gas. Only time will tell its full potential.

^I agree with the last part. At the least a bigger twin scroll will do wonders. Wasn't HPF thinking about doing a turbo upgrade on the N54???... They were going to switch the twins to 1 big single turbo... If that's the case I would assume the N55 is already a step ahead of the game.

N55 = no forged crankshaft. Surprisingly, the forged shaft on the N54 is heavier than the non-forged one on the N55.
I think the N55 properly tuned and with proper upgrades will be capable of 500hp without issues with internal components. Problems start when people get desperate for more power at any cost, run extremely lean tunes leading to detonation under high temperatures, and there goes the engine. As someone else mentioned, only time will tell. |

Just because it's not forged doesn't mean it won't hold some power. The stock crankshaft in the GM LS2 can easily hold 800whp all day and it isn't forged. I'm sure BMW wouldn't replace it if it wasn't more than adequate still.
I'm really interested to see what the N55 will put down once it has some more R&D done on it. |

Old news? Just another 20 hp and probably expensive due to the cooling enhancements.

Alright guys, I'm going to need some help putting together a decent exhaust system.
I've got the AR Design downpipe but I need to pair it with a catback exhaust but I'm not sure which one to go with. I don't want to go with Berk for some reason and all the brands that I like: Active Autowerke, Dinan, and UUC only make axle back. Should I just go with one of the axleback and buy a custom midpipe? Opinions are much appreciated! |

One quick update...HPF just said they are done with their exhaust...they are just doing the finishing touches...so sometime in the next couple weeks I imagine it should be done.
Also with regards to the midpipes it just gives you a little bit louder, and little bit deeper exhaust note. I installed the berk midpipes thinking it would make a huge difference. If any of you are in my area, and would like to see the difference feel free to let me know. I will probably be going with HPF exhaust next month when it is out.

"Below is a video of a 15psi run. You can watch the boost gauge on the dash (fuel gauge) during the run. It peaks just shy of 15psi in the midrange and falls to 10-11psi up top. Pretty low boost for 360+whp. The n55 is an excellent engine. Better than the n54 in many respects i'd say. And a properly matched FMIC upgrade was worth 20-30whp gains from 4200 to 6500rpm!"
