Cafe Chloe, a nice little French Bistro in Downtown SD. You'll like it there.
Also as for Stingaree, it's ok for lounging upstairs when it becomes a nightclub. Bottle service is always nice and look for Marino if you're going, he's the VIP host. Go for magnum veuve clicquot bottles and the waitresses will come with fire crackers .La Jolla Downtown is nice to visit, you may also want to include Sunday brunch from Hotel del Coronado.

I usually go on a Saturday afternoon, it's only about a 35-40 minute trip from Mission Viejo.

Thanks for the recommendations - this is exactly what I was looking for! I might volunteer to go a day earlier so that I have time to do more stuff lol
The Torrey Pines Gliderport looks pretty sweet! Who all has actually done that? If everything looks safe and well maintained I’ll probably give it a go! Any suggestions on a hotel? The wedding is close to the SAN airport but I’ll be driving all over the place anyway so I want to find a good spot.

Close anough to cab to the wedding and back. Don't try to drive in downtown after drinking ANY amount. DUI checkpoints have been popping up there pretty much on weekly basis this year. Hotel Cirlce hotels are bleh. try Harney Sushi in Old Town on Harney street. Prepare for a 2 hour wait. There is some cool mexican shit all around, so you can easily kill 2 hours there while waiting for Harney. Close to downtown too. Glider Port. My old neighboor flies there almost daily. He swears that its totally safe.
