My Vmr Rims Are On.... With A Slight Rub

18x8.5F et+45 225x40x18 Michelin Pilot Super Sport
18x9.5R et+45 255x35x18

Stock susspenion

ok so its been two weeks so far that i have had them on my car. the grip and handling is very noticeable. the ride quality is much better then stock
i also weigh the stock (264 style) rims winter Michelin(PA3) tires .VS. the VMR Michelin (PSS)

VMR(PSS)-- each Front(45.4 lb)----each Rear(50.0 lb) all four 190.8 LB

STOCK(PA3)-each Font(46.8 lb)----each Rear(48.2 lb) all four 190. lB

now back to the rubbing issue on the right rear side is were it only slightly rubs not on bumps not on high speed but only on dips is were i hear the sound ( shhh )for about 1-2 sec i was expecting to have a bigger issue of rubbing with the offset being et 45 for the rear but like i said it doesnt even rub on rough NYC bumps. only if there is a lane that has a dip, it will rub unless im going super slow. Although i just notice last night as i was going fast into a sharp right turn hard i was hearing some kind of wobbling sound.
i coudnt tell which side this was coming from it sounded like something was loose? or something was touching on and off . what i dont understand is that this is not the first time that i have taking this sharp right turn so hard with the VMR setup and never heard it before until last night. What can it be?
Also i noticed that the front shock is Very i mean very close to touching the VMR rim. only my driver license card fits in between the shock and the VMR rim can this be the reason why i hear the wobbling sound on a sharp hard turn?? is it normal for the rim to be so close to the shock like that? do i need spacers? i will be getting my fenders rolled next week just to be on the safe side. i will post more results after the fenders have been rolled up

here is the videos of the front shock and rim almost touching

I have the same setup with VMR710's (except I have ET50/45) on stock suspension, no rubbing and about 6mm play in the front. After BMW performance suspension was fitted, about the same. I am running different tires, but yours seems to be the wheel which is too close.

Also your suspension looks lower than stock. Even lower than mine as I have the BMW PS fitted.

No way that is stock, way to little gap. Do you know the car's history?

Garage List
2008 135i  [3.00]
Looks sweet, but the offset on those wheels combined with the PSSs (which are not narrow) may be tough to fix. It looks like you need a spacer to get some clearance there, but if you do you will probably also need a fender roll. That's the problem when these dealers sell you a set up that's not meant for the car.

Or more like thats the problem with companies not making the wheels we like for our cars. I swear, the 1 series is treated like the bastard child to the aftermarket world. They would rather make products for the 3 series and leave us hanging. That is why we are forced to go with wheels that are not perfect.

If we only went with wheels that fit perfectly, we would all be rolling on Breytons.

Definitely have a pro check it out. Looks very low for stock, and way closer to the strut than most. There's some manufacturing error to account for, but more than I'd expect to see. Try putting a blank mailing label in the strut to see if the tire's touching it... It almost has to be! A 3mm spacer should clear that up, but I'd first want to be sure there isn't something else fishy going on there.

the rim is closer to the strut then the tire is. i cant wait to go the shop this thursday so then can fender roll the rear and also check to see whats going on in the front . maybe my car needs an wheel alignment or camber adjust?

Ok, looks lower than mine & I have the BMW PS fitted. Maybe it is just the photos.

How bad is the rubbing on the rear? both sides?

its not that bad of a rub in the rear i get it only on the right side it hardly rubs only on dips. but thats not whats really bothering me, its the front rim being so dam close to the strut and every time im taking fast hard right turns i hear a wobbling sound

These cars sit lower on the right for some reason. I thought that it was because I have a RHD, but yours is LHD, so that blows that theory!

Mine sits 1cm higher on left rear & 0.5cm higher on front left. Take some measurements front the centre of the wheel arch to the ground .

Anyone have pics with ET50 rears w/ 255 tires? wonder if this spaces out the wheel enough, or if spacers would be need to make the rear more flush
