If you're on this forum you must want us to say poor you, you should get the 1M. I say get the Carrera and leave an open allocation for the rest of us.

If it way my money I would sooner buy a brand new 1M for ~50k and put the remaining 21k in the bank. 71k is a heck of allot of dough for a 2008 CS.
If you are wiling to go a year older and a few more miles, you could likely find a turbo for that money. |

You can buy a nice 2005 or 2006 Carrera S for $50k (many of which will still be under Certified Factory Warranty - they are transferable). There is nothing better about a 2008 (model refresh happened in 2009). In fact, before 2007 you don't have to mess with the annoyance of the Tire Pressure Monitoring systems which are often inoperable or inaccurate and force you to buy sensors for all your wheels.

Carrera S or 1M
Took delivery of a black 1M two weeks ago. I have owned almost all
of the Porsche models(including a Carrera 4S). Have also owned other exotics. The 1M will not disappoint. It is far more engaging to drive than the Carrera and handles with great precision. It is also surprisingly fast in M-mode. I am stunned by the over-all compliance of the 1M and its understated but bold aggressiveness(especially in black). For me it would be the 1M hands down. |

Anyway I'm hoping the 1M will be a good compromise between the two, easy to drive and fun, while at least having 2 back seats and a boot, as well as being a damn site cheaper. PS: I was ready to buy an M3 sedan for the same reason, but when I heard about the 1M, I couldn't resist it, and it was cheaper as well. Now having read all the reviews I'm thinking it was a good move.

I consider the Carrera 4S to be the least engaging of all Porsche sportscars currently made (I include Boxsters and Caymans in that). Have you ever had a GT3 (same money as a C4S)?

Went from an '07 C2S to 1M. C2S was a daily driver getting up there in miles so needed to go before value dropped. Drove a number of GT3's, great drive but too low in front for a daily driver here even with front lift. Drove a Cayman R while waiting on the 1M, fantastic car and one I strongly considered, but when optioned up like I wanted was over $95k sticker.
1M arrived at dealer last week and after a test drive I was sold. It's the best of all worlds as a daily driver/DE car in my opinion. I've had a lot of cars over the years including M3, M5 and 7 911's including a 930 and a 996 X50TT and for a modern daily driver the 1M is the right size in traffic and fun on the on the open road and easier to live with every day than a 911, That said, in a couple of years I'm sure I'ii be back looking at 911's, but in the interim, the 1M is a fantastic diversion. A side benefit is that in a 1M you are not pulling up next to yourself at a stop light like in a 911. |
