okay a couple of things.
i take scott's statement about mixing fact with fiction to be addressing the denials. secondly, no salesman in their right mind would risk losing a sale by agreeing an M1 was in the works. furthermore if people in NA don't like small cars then WHY is BMW bringing the 1 series here in the first place. that argument by the salesman makes zero sense to me. |

There is no way I'm waiting on a M1. So we hear its coming, GREAT. I will be very upset if I seeing 135i's blow by me on the road and I'm waiting almost another 2 years for a special 1. Nope, isnt happening for me. I know myself and I would go nuts. Thats why I'm going to get a VERY good deal on purchasing an 135i. I'll drive it for 3 years and upgrade to an M1 if it isnt priced too outrageous. And if you think about it, BMW has PLENTY of room to play with pricing since the E92 M3 costs ALOT.

i'm really going back-and-forth on what i should do ... one side of me says it's too uncertain to give much weight...the other side of me says 18 mo. from now is basically a year after i actually get the 135i...not that much time. hmmm. glad i don't have to actually place the order for a few months and can see what develops. |

Just lease a 135i for 2 years and then jump into an M1 if it arrives here.
Simple. Although, I don't like getting a model in its first year of production. So I'll be getting a 3 year lease on a 135i and then jump into an M1 when/if it comes.

I realized this morning that I may have mis-understood "Scott's" use of the word fiction. I'm not sure that he's mixing fact and fiction with the product information he's sharing. But he is fictionalizing the encounters with the product (such as those grainy videos on YouTube that show the 135 doing a burnout).
Debate on the probable existence of the M1 is open again. ; -) The offer of a Bier for clarification of the reddness of Sedona Red still stands though! |

I'm in this for the torque and technology of the N54 motor so the M1 doesn't faze me. But I'm getting mighty stressed over whether Sedona Red is red or orange - stressed enough to offer Scott a beer for the straight scoop. [Very Big Grin]

For me this muddies the water.....
I was thinking 135i for the wife (:biggrin, to compliment my Z4M. I may just wait out the M1 as a possible replacement for my car & maybe the hatch will find it's way over here for the wife.

Don't'cha think the Sedona Red looks like Metallic Brick Red? Depending on angle or lighting it can look red or orange'ish.

I hope so - actually I hope it looks like Candy Apple Red (shows my age ; -). But I still think I'd like to buy 'Scott' a beer for an answer. <Another Very Big Grin>

Yeah, I'm 64 so know Candy Apple Red well. My impression from the pics (and I know that's imperfect) is that it's not CAR.

Sedona Red definitely is a far cry from Candy Apple Red.
Honestly, I think Sedona Red is one of those multi-hue paints where in certain light it looks more reddish (but still not completely red) and then in other light it is more orange. Something akin to how Interlagos Blue varies between a nice royal blue to a violet depending on lighting situations. But overall, I think the color leans more towards a deep orange.

I've been deconstructing them for 8 months! It will drive you crazy. I have so much emotions/time/deep thought, etc invested in this car that I HAVE to buy it. I've learned to calm myself and now enjoy reading them. I guess I'm use to it.

If you were to buy a used car instead, say an E46 M3 for example, your total cost over that time will be different. If you got a clean example for 36K (ave. on autotrader) today, which would be like an '03 btw they hold their value like vise grips in 2 years you could reasonably say it would be worth 27,500 (ave. on autotrader). W/ 3k down, 7% interest (no idea what rates are in the states right now, using a high # to be conservative), 72 mo term, monthly payment would be 596 (wanted to keep it close to the lease payment for comparability). Over same 24 mos if nothing goes wrong with it , your total investment would have been 17,313. Or about a grand less than the lease, but that's not the kicker. If you sell it for 27,500 as expected (not likely but for simplicity), the payoff at the end of 24 mos = 24,900. So you would net another 2,600. Or 3,600 less than the lease route in total. Of course its not that straight forward as you would have to consider maintenance on the older car and the difference in insurance between the two and the present value of 3,600 to you two years from now. 3600 over 24 mos straight lined is only 150 a month. Not that big of a deal. The timing of when an M1 is actually available is crucial. The shorter the time frame after the launch of the 135, the bigger the advantage becomes for the used car option. The new new car will take an instant and PAINFUL depreciation hit. Food for thought. :drinking: |

There will be some people saying they need to trade their 135i in immediately when they hear the M1 is becoming available. Others will not see a big deal in it. |

And factor in an M1 will probably be about 45-50k its well outside my purchasing range. Of course the power of a 135 is as much as I'd want anyway, no reason to write checks my ass can't cash.

I've owned 8 M-cars so I won't be one of those hot to upgrade my 135i to M-status. They are wonderful cars, but the M-ystique has faded.
