Awesome photos! I am stationed in Italy and I've been lucky enough to travel through Austria and Switzerland a few times (not in my f30 yet) and it is a absolutely gorgeous. Your pics make me want to get in my car head for the alps!

I was there for three days - basically for the weekend. I think next time I will stay for four or five days though. So many nice roads and scenic alpine passes. In May some of these passes might be closed due to snow. You just have to check the Pass's website before heading out. But normally in late May/June they are open until late October-ish. The thing that makes the Swiss Passes interesting is they have live stock roaming around the roads. So you never know when a cow or a heard or cows will be on the road. Talk about making those switch backs interesting! The only bad thing about Swiss is they are really strict on speed enforecement on some of these passes - like on Furka. In Switzerland the speed limit is only 80 kph(on country roads) - but IF they catch you going more than 120 kph in a 80 zone THEY CAN TAKE YOUR CAR! No joke, so be carefull! Italy is much more friendly for spirited driving. See my link in my signature in Stelvio 1.0 and 2.0 tours. I would say you should also go visit Stelvio Pass and then drive thriu Switzerland. While Stelvio isn't the best road out there... its just so EPIC that I feel everyone should at least drive that road once. But it is quite well known, and there is a lot of traffic on the weekends there. Thats whats nice about these Swiss Passes - not too much traffic. I would also highly recommend you drive the Gotthard Pass, Furka Pass and Grimsel Pass - those were my favorites.

Trento -> Cavalese -> Ponte Nelle Alpi... https://maps.google.de/maps?saddr=Tr...mra=ls&t=m&z=8 I often use Google maps to find some nice twisty roads and do some internet searches on them. Find some Passes and have some fun!

Hahah... would you believe most of the pics were taken on my phone! All the panorama shots were phone pics on my Samsung Galaxy. My travel camera is a Panasonic Lumix LX7 with the Leica lens - has a 16:9 photo format that I shot with for these wide frame shots.

Dave what a great weekend trip! Thanks for sharing ...
loved the photos and all the video clips. What camera did you use Dave? Next moths I'm taking my 1969 Pagoda to Williamsburg, Virginia for the 50th celebration of the Pagoda. I'm thinking of going with my removable hardtop so I'm shopping for a good car video camera. Looks like your's is the ticket. Took fantastic video clips well done!

EPIC!!
Thanks so much (again) for the great write-up and tons & tons of photos and videos. The alpine passes trip my husband & I took in 2012 was the most fun we ever had on a vacation. We went through some of the areas you did and we *can't wait to go back!!* Your thread gives us some ideas for next time!

I spent five days in Switzerland a few years ago and it has to be the most beautiful country I've been to. Absolutely breathtaking. These pictures took me back and I thank you bro. Awesome.

Beautiful pictures. We decided to do an overnight trip to Zermatt while staying on Lake Como this summer and it was the best decision of the whole trip. You should've take the train up to see the Matterhorn though. It's an awesome city, except for the very expensive electric taxis... And the Matterhorn is stunning in person! Also, the Swiss highways are stunning. Driving under the coverings they've built into the mountain face is like being in a modern architecture exhibit.

Great trip, thanks for sharing!
It really reminds me alot of my country Norway, natural, clean and twisty roads. Alot of fresh air, and the shoulders goes down and the stress goes away. I think i need such a trip this fall. :-)
