Those both look really good ajvee and Macca, any issues with rubbing etc? What tyre sizes are you using?

I'm keen on the switch to 17" too, would really like a staggered set of e90 17's but there doesn't seem to be anybody running that set-up, i'm guessing the offsets don't work.

No rubbing on the stock e36 M3 tyre sizes which from memory were 225/45x17 front (7.5" rim ET41?) and 245/40x17 rear (8.5" rim ET41?)

No rubbing here either! These are my winter set. I have 225/45/17s all around. They are staggered 7.5" up front and 8.5" in the rear with a front offset of 47 and a rear offset of 50.

I have a 2010 135i that I got on November 19th (Ordered October 1st). I ordered it with 17" wheel option and it came with 4 identical Style 142 wheels with 205/50 R17 Goodyear LS 2 RunOnFlat tires. I actually just swapped those tires out for Nokian Hakkapelliita R RunFlat snows (also 205/50 R17) and so this is going to be my winter setup. I am selling the (4) Goodyear LS 2 tires after only 300 miles, they are on eBay and in the Marketplace section of this forum.

For the summer, I have a set of sport package wheels from a previously owned 128i. These are BMW 17 x 7 front rims and 17 x 7.5 rear rims (I think style 262?) Anyway, I have the OEM Goodyear NCT 5 RunOnFlat tires, 205/50 R17 fronts and 225/45 R17 rears. I love those tires! They are great.

Here are two pictures of my car with the current setup and a picture of the summer wheel.

Am I the only person who thinks the car looks great with 17s??? I think lower profile tires/wheels makes the car look hot rodded/slammed, and that's not the look I like.

My objection to 17s is that I haven't see too many options that don't look like grandmas BMW. I think the higher performance advantages are minimal compared to a high quality (light weight) 18" wheel, but the higher sidewall just looks too clunky. For snows, narrower wheels make sense, though I don't think there's any grip advantage between 17s and 18s with the same tires. I know you can get a softer ride with 17s and have less risk of tire/wheel damage, but those weren't considerations when I bought my 1.
