Spelling 'gay', 'ghey' = less cool than you think you are.

my college GF was from Chicago.....when i visited with her there, i was perplexed that like EVERYONE had a vanity plate....it was only later that someone told me there was no extra charge in Ill. for vanity plates at the time (late 1980s)....not sure if this is still the case....

The fat frame would be pushing it.. You would get pulled over for plate obstruction...
But along those lines... It wouldn't be that hard to hook up a servo that just "James Bond's" the plate up and out of sight by the flick of a switch... Some people hook up a hinge to their front plate so when they are going at highway speeds the air resistance blows the plate up and parallel to the ground. |

Stealth & vanity
The one performance-related issue to be addressed with "vanity" plates: Can you order an alphanumeric sequence that will be almost impossible to read quickly and call in from a patrol car?
In that respect, rather than going with traditional vanity plates like "BUSTME" that read fast & are hard to forget, you might be smart to go digital: 10110101 or perhaps mix in a few capital-O's and capital-I's: I1O10I11I You can't write "or something like that" on a ticket.
