I realize I made fun of it for this reason too, but from memory, the previous M Cars with side vents, the MZ3, the E46 M3, the E60 M5, the E9x M3 and the XxM trucks all have non-functional side vents. They just don't look as apparent as the ones on the 1M, which looks like the RX8's without the silly plastic trim.
I was actually somewhat surprised when the E9x M3 got one functional hood intake, even if the right hand one doesn't actually do anything, and the side vents are still dummies. |

+1 -- I have to agree in that the marketing has all of us talking about it...one way or the other, BMW's got our attention...love it or hate it...they have us speculating, wondering, wanting, diss'ing... Frankly, I think the speculation is a huge waste of time...and love indulging in it!

This campaign is actually worst than people creating "Teaser" threads with pictures of boxes. I can't and won't speak for everyone here but I certainly don't give a fcuk. Those who are still excited for the car, good for you! Wow, a rear bumper. Whoop deee fcuuuuuuking doo. /end rant. |

It's surely serving the purpose though. There is so much anticipation and interest that the marketing wizzes have done their do, successfully. I suspect the drive will take the process to the finish line. I can't wait for Sunday's (I think) reveal, and the Dexter season finale!!!

So the lucky 12 test drivers didn't get to see the final product because they swore there's no side slit. Either that or BMW has instructed them to hold back which goes against what they said all along that no censorship exist
