Performance muffler is good for maybe 1-3hp, it's still fairly restrictive. Just makes noise bleh. A full cat back or cat back with 2nd cat del would be easy 10-15hp, headers cat del would be the same

the intake actually add close to 10 hp. mainly because charcoal filter is restrictive in our intakes.

charcoal intake filters? I know cabin air filters use charcoal to 'purify' air for human breathing, never heard of such a thing for engine intakes. Me thinks you've mixed things up there.

the e90 n52 guys all are doing charcoal delete in the stock airbox and then use a K&n drop in.

FYI-A quick search shows there is no 'charcoal engine intake filter' for the 128.
There are cabin air filters that contain charcoal. Last edited by NYC6; 06-21-2012 at 10:09 PM.. |

No, there is a small screen/filter in the stock intake box before the regular intake filter. Not sure of the benefit of it being there, but many take them out and add a k&n drop-in filter.

Not sure really if the filter / screen contains charcoal or not. May be a figure of speech, but regardless if it is charcoal or not, its there so what does it matter?

Supersprint says the headers deleting the primary cats are good for 6hp.

If you wish to go through life spouting incorrect information and not caring that you're wrong, so be it. Many others wish to know which is right and which is wrong, even something as mundane as charcoal intake filters. Doesnt matter to you, got it. |

There is a permanent filter in the air box that contains a black powder. It's function is to absorb evaporating hydrocarbon vapors and thus lower emissions. Given it's appearance and function, I think it's very, very safe to presume that the substance is activated charcoal. I personally don't believe that there is any performance to be gained from removing it.

though considering you're talking about a 128i not a 130i, it could be closer to reality... oh, unless they're talking about JUST deleting cats from stock headers, not going full aftermarket.. then 6 is probably bang on and a pretty solid increase |

in my first car (which was around 110whp stock) gained 5ish from headers, and another 5 from the cat-back 125i being 210hp and 128i being 230hp it'd probably be around the same yeah, 7ish rather than 6. i'm still going with that being very conservative.. in this market, over-estimating loses as many customers as under-estimating. then still have to remember it's a gain somewhat all over the rev-range, peak figures are only one story. |
