Its like either the tune does like a "separate the men from the boys" kinda thing with our engines automatically pushing the engines to the point where the ones built the "right" way in every way, have no problems, and the others will lil faults, show codes n misfires, etc.

Could be a good thing it does that, maybe not. I think itd be a friggin pain in my ass. I get a snazzy tune for my car, i wanna drive it like i stole it, not be arrested n forced to turn the car in to the authorities (dealer)
I think that for some people, the tune is exposing an otherwise hidden fault in their car, but I think that other people might be experiencing a bug in the tune. It may be a bug that only shows up under very particular conditions, and difficult to reproduce, hence many people not experiencing the problem.

In my case, the two times it happened to me were near WOT going uphill (not a steep hill, but a hill none the less). I believe I was in 3rd or 4th gear, while some people on the 3 series forum reported being in 6th and accelerating aggressively. This would indicate that it occurs under very high torque load, and not just under high fuel load. It seems to me (and I don't claim to be an expert) that the error code and engine shut down might be because the ECU is receiving torque info that is outside an accepted range, and that the tune just needs to be revised to accept these higher values.

Let's be clear, the possible bug is with a BETA release, which means I fully expected that I might encounter issues with it. COBB is kind enough to allow any user to download their Beta releases. I imagine this helps them troubleshoot any issues, while giving users the chance to indulge in up and coming improvements to the tune, with the caveat that it may not be completely stable.

My experience with the COBB has been awesome so far. I simply reloaded the last stable release, and will wait for the stable release of v300. That's the beauty of the COBB; you can make changes so quickly and easily. There should be no reason why you shouldn't purchase one, considering the currently released tunes are great, and all future tunes are free. Just don't download the Beta tunes if you don't want to take the risk.

I'm a Dinan guy and have had Dinan tunes on my two previous BMW's.
But, this COBB tune has me very interested. The price is right and you can return the car back to stock for dealer visits. Also, has more power than the Dinan. Although, I think Dinan offers three different tunes with an increase in power.

I still want the COBB. Maybe I'll pull the trigger soon.

I'm assuming they have the cruise control problem fixed. I have a 2008 135i. Does the COBB have less problems/issues for the older 135's?

Do it! It's totally worth it, being able to go back to stock is awesome, and as far as I know has never been an issue with dealerships finding out. The issues with cruise control is really random, I had the issue with my 2009 but have seen it on '08s as well.

Twice this week I had my car go in limp mode after full acceleration in manual mode. I got the code P2D59 (DME Internal Error: Monitoring Actual Torque) on the AP. Searched and asked a previous Cobb tuned friend...apparently it is the Beta release. All I did was go onto the Cobb site to download the previous firmware (v203) and installed it back on to my car. I actually downloaded the V2 that gave a more aggressive response. WOW, did it prove that even in auto mode.

Just as I thought, no problems after installing v203. Must be a beta map thing, esp in automatics that when we floor it at high speeds we kick down from 6th gear with retarded boost.

maybe it's me, but there seems to be a difference (down) in acceleration between the new map v300 versus v203 (?). I dont appear to have any issues in the higher gears, and the good news is cruise control works so I cant complain too much. I still love my Cobb A/P.

Well if you find a gauge setup other than the left side p3 one, and it fits well, let me know. Id love to get one that either fits in right-center vent or the lower ashtray area. I have a 2010 so my ashtray isnt the older version, has no door and no lighter so it wouldnt work with the ones out for that already, not only that but i only want a boost gauge, not 3 diff ones..

Wish the 1er community could encourage ECS to make us a center vent gauge setup like they have the for GTI's, they fit very nicely. Some would say go with the p3 anyways but the fast is I want an analog gauge, not some digit thing out of my line of site that would just annoy the hell out of me

I believe so! Do you have a link to it? Is it pretty accurate?

No thanks, like I said, I want one that looks oem and one that I can actually SEE without craning my neck over the steering wheel. I really dont see why it would be so diff for a company like ECS to make a center vent gauge setup like the GTI's, etc. have. Its the best look, easiest to see and most oem boost gauge setup there is, period. Think ill send them an email bout this, perhaps they can model out the 1 series vent and make me one special.

Started running v3.00 and received a new code

P2DED - Power management, closed-circuit protection

along with my DP codes

Car is not going limp, just showing that new code. Any ideas?

Thumbs up First post, First Tune... Cobb addict!

Hi all,

First post. Just got a 2008 135i. Cobbed it and must say I am amazed... No issues with the install, took some time and reading to figure out the beta non beta thing. However I am running v300 for 2 weeks now and had zero issues (no codes, no nothing!) and the car is a beast! I cannot see how any other version was better...not planning on trying them, just waiting for final non beta version of the v300. Power does seem to jump after a small delay but when it's ON... holly cow. If the final version has more linear response it will be great.

I had a number of bimmers before, never tuned so I just figured out that super car performance came in under a grand mod and 20 minutes in the driver seat watching it do its thing!

Awesome!

Just got all the latest updates etc. Car was flawless with prior versions. Not making any assumptions here but when I jumped on it and started to come back down motor was missing like a bitch and misfire on cyl 6 was stored. Shut the car off and did an immediate restart and it ran fine....I'm not looking for a diagnosis, I'm just reported my observations.
