That and if you are doing headers eventually, only Evolve has a tune for the Supersprint headers and only Evolve has the ability to code you to pass emissions. Also, don't you have to mail in your ECU for AA?

Anyway, AA sells a handheld tool which allows you to load the software onto your car yourself, much like the Evolve-R does. Also, they have a dealer who does the tunes local to me, so if I went that route I would save a few hundred bucks by not having to buy the tool.

I'd go with evolve for a number of reasons:
a) I think they're a better tuner in general, both in customer service and ability to tune b) They've been tuning 130i's since they came out, since they're based in europe. They know what to do to get power out of them on top of enabling DISA c) They're the only SuperSprint dealer in England. Meaning, they've been making tunes for 130s with SS headers for a long time-- they know what they're doing there. I doubt AA has done a single DISA enabled header car yet, much less tuned one on their dyno to see what works and what doesn't. (to your above point, yes, header tunes are significantly different-- e.g., the only hardware difference between the US spec and euro spec e46 M3 is headers, yet the tune differs in VANOS timing, AFRs, timing, everything. Significantly different tunes). d) the Evolve cable is also a code reader and clearer, that displays the codes in plain english e) Evolve seems to have a better handle on modern BMW ECUs-- e.g. AA has blown up a couple SCed e9X M3s in their development process. Evolve has not in theirs. f) As far as I know, Evolve is the only tuner that can disable emissions systems and still leave them showing as "ready" when plugged into OBD2 readers. Not ever a little bit of a tough decision, imo.

I need to compare it to their other dyno's,to make note of the gains. I do know that for me,a header tune would be the one that makes OBII say ready vs just off. The Value is there for emission standards that plug in and read, have to read up what my local req's are. As far as regular AA tune vs regular Evolve tune, I think my evolve tune made for 91.5-92 octane is just as good as AA for 93 octane, but it allows me to use 91 octane. Comparing dyno images from others, I see that Evolve tune is smoother vs AA's winch has a 1 or 2 spikes before and/or after a disa moment. Will know soon, finally have time to dyno Had a surprising moment after 3 months on the tune. I was on an on ramp on an empty hwy, gunned it in 6th. So the acceleration didn't feel too strong.. little did i know I was going faster than 170km/h, i expected to be under or at 150km/h had to slow down to 125km/h as soon as i realized what happeend...

If we had the N51 here we would have it done. We will have some time later in Summer to do some remote development but need a willing participant who doesn't mind spending a bit of time on a dyno. |

Seriously, there IS a market for a s65/s85 swap kit for the e46, keeping it OBD2 compliant. What's it gonna take?!?!?

And while you are at it, make us one for the E82. Everyone knows the 1M needs it desperately to get that junk out from under the hood.

Imram, I would be a willing participant for your n51 development project and can certainly give up as much time as you need for dyno time and testing. I am in Boston, USA.
