sweet. how much did the rear quarters install end up costing. so far ive seen quotes from 2500-3500. ive already got all my panels just think i might spread out doing the rear so im not spending so much money all at once already 12K deep this year plus what i paid for my car :/

Car looks awesome. im mad you have n55 tho im swapping in m3 rear end/lsd so i have to modify my drive shaft looking for more info on that.

Thanks! Definitely excited to get her back on the road... I didn't get an exact break down of the install for the rear panels but I would easily say 3500 to 4000, but I knew VAC's work is aces and all they touch are BMWs so it was a safe option for me.

As for the driveshaft I found a wrecked 1M and was lucky enough to source the driveshaft from it and got it rebalanced to make sure it was good, but I definitely still have to replace my factory shaft with the new M3 differential.

I definitely will! We actually are leaving my window on after all just so I could get the car back faster, but if I get any wind noise or leakage I will have your put on asap, it's stored safely in the basement for now, thanks again for that! Totally worth the drive just to see your car too.

Do you know what they did for the wheel well? Did they just cut the 135 wheel well and weld in a piece to make it wider or did they install the 1m wheel well

It was cheaper for Nate at the shop I used to fab and weld in a piece. If you want to take your conversion to the Nth degree then by all means (and dollars), but IMO, once you put in the seam seal, paint it and then install the 1M rear wheels liners; only you and the shop are going to know.

Looks great, but with all the money put in. Why not just have bought an actual 1M with how cheap they are?

I'm curious about the total invested cost and the reason behind this undertaking vs getting a 1M. I can understand taking on a challenge and can respect it but if you wanted to have a 1M there are quicker ways to get there. Either way I like the chameleon 1M and hope to see more of it in final form

Basically I didn't want to get a somewhat rare 1M that will become a collectors item one day and modify it to the point where it would be worthless. So I decided to go this route to build the car exactly the way I wanted. Roughly $15k in bodywork and suspension components to do it right. It can be done for less.

I'm a car guy through-and-through, and I can totally see the fun in this project and wanting to do what you're doing, however, I also question, why!? Lol. I know, my comment contradicts itself to a degree, but it would have been so much easier and cost effective to just buy a used 1M. I'm sure your build is totaling much more than that of used, but true factory built 1M. In any case, I still applaud you for this undertaking. Very nice work.

Also leaving N55 in is a big no go considering such extensive conversion.

Nice work. Now, get back in the garage and put a real M motor in it. S65 is perfect for the level of transformation this car has undergone. I mean otherwise, everyone will just wonder why you didn't buy a used 1M. With the S65 this BMW will enter the realm of ultra-special. It is the powerplant the car deserves.

It's definitely on the calendar for this car! But I do have the N55 engine unlike the actual 1M.

Unfortunately no... Needs to be coded to the car. Any reputable BMW shop can handle it.
