A rant and why not...

I have asked the dealer to fit the latest software update to my car in an attempt to fix the 3100 hesitation issue.
I have heard of a link.

On the same subject though...
dont you all think this is pretty crap...

A manufacturer releases a car to a market to which they are unsure how it will be received. Early adopters commit their hard earned to a new product which frankly is full of bugs and are increasingly told that their thanks for this that older models (just a cotton picking minute here, older ones with which their is only 4 weeks in it in a 12-16 week old vehicle) cannot get updates.

Who the bloody hell do BMW think they are.
This isnt £200 quids worth of bloody desktop software...
Oh hey just a minute I have realised that you get more support from £200 quids worth of desktop software than the 28ks worth of motor I have just shelled out for.

The dealers seem scared/reluctant to apply the patches.
Sometimes I dont want to apply a service pack to an NT server,
but its my job. Get over it.

I have found nero burning settings wich work fine:
no multissession mode
mode 1
ISO 9660 + Joliet
31 characters
character set (ISO): ASCII

I don't know if all parameters are important, but at least, it works fine: good display of directory and song names

Hi Tirtaps I have a cd changer and it shows the full titles. The front loader trancates the titles.

Thanks Tirtaps, your method fixes the front-loader directors display . I wish BMW had included a proper manual on the MP3 specification for the car.

Well I just picked up my car today, and it does not even recognise the CD as valid when I enter an MP3 disc. I tried it in the front CD driver as well as in the CD stacker in the boot - rather dissapointing, and frustrating, aspecially given that the cheaper Bus Navi plays MP3 just fine

My thoughts exactly.

I suspect they are scared. I doubt any expect the very largest dealerships have a "real" software guy and typically these guys are mechanics just told to blindly follow instructions which as i'm sure you know with your NT upgrades means things often go wrong. They should just stick a USB port on the back and let us do it ourselves.

E90 Software version

Just saw this elsewhere on the web

E90 software version for Idrive
(there is a non idrive version as well)

Key in ignition but car not started

1. Press down the knob for 10 seconds release.
2. Turn knob clockwise 3 clicks
3. Turn knob anticlockwise 3 clicks
4. Turn knob clockwise 1 click
5. Turn knob anticlockwise 1 click
6. Turn knob clockwise 1 click
7. Press the knob down briefly

You will get the secret menu.

Would be interested to know what the working Mp3 pro navis have. Am out of the country now so cant check mine.

I gave this a go with both the I-Drive knob and the stereo on/off/volume knob, as I was not sure which knob you meant. i had no luck. Has this worked for anyone else ?

Is there a time limit on how quickly you should do this or is there a mode/state that I-Drive should be in before begining the above procedure ? I tried it a few times ... nada

I haven't tried it, but there is no way that would do anything meaningful.

Well it works on mine - you get a diagnostic screen and then some pages of stuff that seems to describes the ECU software modules. I can tell you my ECU was made on the 13th July 2005 :-)

I had to try a couple of times.

Engine not running.
Make sure the underlying display menu is on "display on/off" before you do the sequence and make sure the first button push is at least 10 seconds.

If y'all still doubting me let me know and i'll post some photos.

Okay, I felt like a total loser, but I tried these steps on my e90. No luck. When I'm on the "Display Off" menu choice and then perform the first step, hold down for 10 seconds, the display simply turns off. I can then no longer turn the knob by "clicks". I even verified by ignition was on by opening and closing the sunroof. I know the car was off because I was in my garage with the garage door closed and I'm still here to tell about it. I need further proof to believe this one.

cdxp, I saw the very nice video you did. Thank you very much. I thought there is no way someone would put this much time into it and be making it up. I went again to try it on my car and IT WORKED!! I got the secret menu. I have trouble replicating it for some reason, but I did see it. You were right, I was wrong. Good job, cdxp!

What exactly does the secret menu do? I got to it but didn't know what to do with it.
