Summer tires
Hey all. So it's that time of year, winter tires are coming off. Problem is I am new to my 1er and this will be my first full summer with her. I bought it last august and had run flats, looking to step up. Can anyone recommend some solid summer tires with good balance between performance and road noise? I do a lot of highway driving. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

Just had my RE-11's installed and I can't get over how much quieter they are than the runcraps. As an added bonus the initial turn-in take a lot less effort and is much quicker. Look's like I finally found a tire that can handle the Dinan Stage II tune and get the car moving.
PS. Tirerack now has a $100.00 rebate program on them as well. |

I'm on Hankook V12, These tire are awesome, and they are fairly inexpensive. They have gotten some good reviews from Car and Driver too.
Gill from tire rack can set you up with tires. |

I also have to say that the Hankook V12's appear to be very well rated and reviewed. I haven't tried them yet as I'm supposed to get my car back tomorrow with them, but I can tell you I spent a good week searching this forum and others before selecting them.
I'm running 225 up front and 255 in the back on stock rims. |

+1 for 255's out back on stock wheels, this should be a no-brainer you have no traction as it is!
The hankooks are decent from what I've heard, and I know a hankook rep who would be more than happy to get them for cost. I'm still an azenis fan for some reason, love the look of the RT-615's http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...=Azenis+RT-615 Just too bad tirerack doesn't carry them. |

I'm ordering the Hankook V12's b/c of the apparent value proposition. I'll be running some negative camber up front, so KNOW there will be faster/uneven tire wear up front. Only time will tell how fast they'll wear unevenly and how often I need to change them! But, knowing that I'll need to replace the fronts here and there, I'd rather spend 1/2 the money to do so! Considering the reviews, I think/hope they may be a TOP performing tire as well! Wouldn't that be GREAT ...a no-regrets, top-performer for 1/2 the price of, say, a Michelin PS2! We'll see!

Finally got my car back with a new HPFP and the V12's installed. Of course, after more than a week of dry weather in the 40's it began to blizzard here in Anchorage a couple hours before I got the car.
Tires held fine, despite the 30 degree weather and slushy snow all over the place. Obviously not the conditions they are intended for. They are very quiet, but I've been driving on studs for 6 months, so take that as you will. I did one hard pull on a wet uphill slope at 29 degrees and the tires didn't budge. Considering they aren't broken in yet I'm very happy so far. |

Define "seems". Have you ever compared a 245 to a 255 in real life? Did you know one manufacturer's 245 may very well be WIDER than another's 255? Were talking 10mm here! Don't be sceered
I will speak with the hankook guy to see if he wants a little side business... And so OP, how are the V12's?? |

I've got these as well and they are great tires. Sick handling and much quieter than the runcraps. You also don't have to worry about them getting destroyed everytime you hit a pothole(its unavoidable in NJ).

Had the 135 for about six weeks and I'm just about to pull the trigger on some replacements for the RFT's. Going with the Hankook's too from what I can see from various review's/opinions. It will be hard to duplicate those RFT's though - lol.
225's on the front and sticking with the 245's on the rear (get the front end to stick just a tad better while trying to keep the little bit of looseness at low speed under throttle). Think I'll get them mounted on the new Enkei PF01's while I'm at it. Can't believe that with that combination one can save about 40lbs of rotating weight overall. That's a lot! Here's a pick mounted on a Z at SEMA. |

Im running the 255/225 setup on the stock rims and its great. Lots more traction than the runflats, esp now that its getting warm out im really finding out how awesome this car handles!

Ok guys, lil off topic question here. Im looking at some forgestar 18" F14 wheels for my 1er. Im on stock suspension, no spacers, what would be the best fitment and look as far as width and offset. I was thinking 8.5 45 fronts, and 9.0 48 rears with 225/255 tires.
Opinions? |

I like what I read about the M3 front end links and the rear subframe bushings as a starting point for the suspension itself. I really like the car but am quite disappointed at the lack of suspension set up on the bumps. Front end skips and crashes and the rear end wallows. Otherwise I think it has potential. |
