I voted Yay, but really... who cares? It's China for crying out loud. What possible effect can this have on BMW's US market?

There's a lot of spillover in corporations. If something works in one place and they make XXX,XXX sales, there's a pretty high chance they'll try it elsewhere.

Like finding the 1 series hatch to be successful, building it into a coupe and bringing it to USDM?

By that logic, then this fwd whatever it is will then be redesigned to a jacked up sav/van thing and brought to USDM as another cookie cutter crossover.
Wait. Didn't they already do that when they redesigned the X1?

That's all we need, is another SUV from BMW. The X6 M is kinda cool though, in a crazy-fast ridiculous way.

Yep, and quite frankly, that thing sucks. I can't think of a single compelling reason to buy an X1 over a Hyundai Tucson. If anything, the Hyundai would give you exponentially better reliability. The current X1 is for people looking for the badge and nothing more.

I quite liked the old X1 for what it was. BMW really fucked their identity with all this FWD development IMO.

It's just representative of the US market demand for people who buy new. Americans want cars that can do everything.

Agree. I cross shopped the X1 with a couple cars like a Subaru Crosstrek (which i got) and a Mercedes suv and the X1 was the worst. Cheap interior, not very roomy, expensive to start clicking options. That was in 2013 though, so maybe its better now. The Hyundai Santa Fe sport looks pretty good.

I would like to see a BMW like this in the states honestly. BMW needs a modern day e46 commuter in Chicago. BMW does not have the presence on the hwy like they did 5yrs ago here. BMW does not have a car that fits in a cramped office parking garage and can drop off and pick the kids for school activity's. e46 and e90's fit that, f22 is wide and has to large of doors for daily city parking cause either you're shoehorned in or dinging some other cars door panels, school kids be damn'd. f52's needs will be a different box to fill then our e82 & e88's. BMW once the thoroughbred shows little interest in what brought them to the front of the line. My bone to pick is BMW has truly abandoned nearly everything that made them the best. Why? theory a many.
Let me explain it this way, if f52's price tag is $30-33g's and a Jetta SE is $22g's, GLI is $29g's US, Korea and Japan buckets of competition too, well BMW is either premium or not. Now that big and solid 3.0L I-6 have been replaced with fuel sipping turbo'd half the size do you need a BMW to commute? If BMW has passed/ignored on the size of e46 due to sub-frame lawsuit in 2008 and liabilities in China vs US they won't have that future issue -spitball'n. I've observed this too, freshly designed Jaguar XE, Alfa Romeo Gulia, Kia Cadenza, Hyundai Azera, Genesis G70, Acura TLX in addition to the Audi, Lexus & MB already competing and all have their sights set on the 3-series market share. They smell blood in the water like sharks and all designs and marketing like a cock block at 3am. Every critic and auto review starts with a phrase "look out 3-series here comes XYZ..." or "move over BMW XYZ is staking a claim"! SO I conclude with BMW is careless with it's market share, yeah, who f'n cares. BMW has a pocket full of i8, i3 330e 540e etc etc they have more then any other luxury brand cept maybe Tesla looking to the future car trends. Gamble? maybe riding into the sunset like most horse drawn carriage makers of 1910-20 did, may mean BMW has a bigger picture in mind and ready to pivot. They don't consult me and I don't work for them so this forum post will hopefully pass as my voice. |
