looks great. how is it next to the shadowline bits? is the color and gloss the same? close?

i'm going to do the same with vinyl but haven't decided on what vinyl to use. deff not matte due to the shadowline parts.

matches really well. just get a high gloss black and you should be fine.

A workshop quoted me $104 for the materials which will be 1200mm x 2000mm. Also, he said that all black vinyls are the same. Do you think this is true?

Nope, that def in not true at all. Not all vinyls are the same. Low quality vinyl is exactly that and there are true car vinyls for graphics and there is calander vinyl which doesnt like to stay over any bends so it is only used on flat surfaces. remember, you need to tuck your vinyl around the roof so calendar vinyl is HIGHLY unrecommended. If the place has done vinyl wraps before I am sure they use decent stuff. Check out Oracle's website and you will see all the different vinyl ratings they have

Hey mineo77 is your vinyl wrap reversible? I've been calling up a few places local to me and they only recommend certain types of Avery and 3M vinyl. They've quoted me $120 per meter!!

reversible in as i can remove it easily...yes.

I would avoid Avery, but 3M makes good vinyl. That sounds crazy for the price!!! I paid $10/yd (roughly 1 meter), but had to purchase 10yds minimum. You could always order from BMWShadowline.com. they are nice folks, but the vinyl is cheap fyi. thats what i had at first and the shop said not to put that on my car cause it was not rec by them. They had vinyl but no high gloss so they sent me to a wharehouse place to buy Oracle vinyl which they recommended. The BMWshadowline vinyl is avery i believe. I paid $75 to have it installed, and $50 to have all the paint work done (shark fin and side rails)

Thanks for your help. I've contacted 2 places so far.

The 1st place told me they would use Avery 900 series and would charge me $52 for 1200mm x 1000mm and use up 2m so $104 in vinyl. They said labour would come in at $225-$300 as it's a 2 person job and it will take roughly 2-3 hours.

The 2nd place I called up told me they would use Avery 1005 and it was $120 for 1350mm x 1000mm and roughly 2m so $240 in vinyl. They said labour would be 1 hour job, maybe 2 hour at $75 per hour. I asked this guy if he used Oracal and he told me to steer away from it as it's not very good. Also, he told me that Avery 900 was not reversible and would bake onto the paint after some time.

I'm in mixed feelings about what to do. Why do you recommend skipping Avery?

I dont have personal experience, but the 3 shops around here said they didnt use Avery. Not sure what kind they where refering too. And when i brought my avery film there was a noticable difference from other vinyl they showed me. But sounds like there are lots of varieties of Avery to choose from...I am sure it isnt that bad..its just vinyl. Biggest thing is that it is not calendar vinyl which i dont think either of those are. I would hate to have it baked on my car...otherwise why not just paint it right?

sounds like prices are much more $$$ where you are..but i am not sure of the conversion to the US dollar.

We get raped here with pricing on pretty much everything. I've sourced almost all my mods from overseas and even after shipping and customs, taxes etc it still works out cheaper. I might try and find somewhere where I can purchase some Oracal vinyl online and have it delivered if that's possible. I don't want to pay more than $300 all up which is reasonable imho. If i can get it done for $200 I will be stoked. The conversion rate is almost dollar for dollar btw.

Nice! Im looking into doing this to my 1 when i pick it up. But i will be doing the Carbon Fiber material. I believe its about $10 a square foot. If and when i do it, i will post pics.
